In the Northwest corner of the contiguous US it's a blustery 17 degrees as I type this. For us who are living in a marine climate that's mighty cold. Plants die, pipes freeze and the ground is hard as a rock. I do remember one year about this time when the deck steps were icy and snowy. I was stepping down them every so very carefully and the next thing I knew I was on my caboose and thought my tailbone was destroyed. shocked Nothing like giving your 'brains' a good slap once in a while...lol But the wondrous thing about the icy, dry cold weather, besides your underwear sticking to the inside of your shirt sleeve when it comes from the dryer (and you hope you spot it before someone else does), is how quiet the cold is. You can hear sounds miles and miles away that you never hear before. It's a "clean" sound outside.

We all live in micro-climates so even if the reports tell the nights and lows 'we' know what it will be where we live. We're not likely to get above freezing at our place for another 4-5 days. I just throw a few extra logs on the fire. That's my profession these days. smilewinkgrin

Let's all give a 'local' weather report and how does it differ from what we all hear on the local news.

Rain, Rain, and more raincry  I live in central Virginia. Our weather isn't really as cold or snowy as alot of places. Today we will be in the 50s, and rainy. I'm getting tired of rain. It has been raining on and off (more on than off) for about 2 weeks. I think I may have to swim to work today.

NW Georgia.  Very windy here today, but clear blue skies and 58 degrees after a stormy night.  However, the temp is going to dropping today and by morning it will be 28 degrees.  I just can't deal with the cold since I have gotten older, but thankfully it doesn't get as cold here as it does in other places.  Soft hugs to all!

Here in Central Iowa, we are having a blizzard of "Epic" proportions. That's the weather channel people. It is about the worst I've ever seen. Probably 20 inches of snow since yesterday and still snowing. The wind is gusting up to 40 mph. Temp of 10, wind chill -10. I heard they just closed interstate 35 and interstate 80. That almost never happens. I had a haircut and massage scheduled today and had to cancel. Those are two things I never miss. OWW! Diane

Northern lower Michigan.

We got about six inches of snow last night.  Heavy packy snow.  The snowman type.  We are in for a winter storm for three days, I think.  Accumulation every day.  And windy.

Time to shovel roofs and get the snowblower out.  I have two greenhouses that need tending too.  Can't let them cave in.  Today was suppose to be my day off work, but the boss called, so I figure somebody quit.  It was inevitable I guess.  So off to work I go again. lol...  I can use the money anyway.

I know that this is a depressing weather forcast, but that is what is happening in Michigan.  lol...

Good thread as always Chutzie...

Do you guys REALLY want to hear from me?  Here in the Tampa Bay, Florida area it is sunny with puffy white clouds and it's 80 degrees outside.  The palms are swaying with the gentle sea breeze.  Need I say more?  cool

Is "It's really gross out there" a proper weather report? Maybe not but it is the truth here in south central Upper Michigan. We have snow and blowing and drifting. Not as much snow as Diane has but enough for a snow day from school. That made my daughter happy. Me too since I can just hide out from the snow and wind in the nice warm house. And Sherrine, you don't have to rub it in. Us northerners aren't liking you too much right now for that-just joking.

NW river valley area Arkansas

Temps colder than normal. Today high of 40, low 17. Sunny, clear blue skies with wind out
of the NW 12 miles an hour. Too cold for me!

Sherrine, I'm so envious!!!

A foot of snow in the driveway and slush all over the roads. School on a 2 hour delay and many canceled. Thankfully this is my day off so I need to look for my boots. Herman's
Survivors are the best. Lightweight and really last. This makes my 5th year with them....
so they may be camo print but it works for me. Who needs designer stuff when I have
to shovel in the dark. I'm not sure if my grandaughters concert is cancelled tonight.

Central Illinois, we escaped most of the snow but the wind has been blowing wickedly all day and it is now 13 degrees without the wind chill factor.

Sherrine, your right, we could have gone all day without hearing about your weather. devil

luv and hugs

Anchorage, Alaska's official forecast says 15-20F, fog and occasional snow and flurries.

Littleneck's personal forecast is 15-20 aches and pains, occasional flurries of stabbing and burning, and fog. LOTS of fog!

We got 8 inches of snow in nh yesterday. First time its really snowed so far. So cant complain too much lol. But it is chilly and windy!
