cool Hey all I'm new to this online thing-a-ma-bob but I've been reading a bunch of posts from fellow fibro sufferers and i feel like I'm about to fit right in!  I can't tell you how many nights I've remained uncomfortable and stationary in fear of the bed covers toucing my legs and causing aches and pains.  That's what i got in a nuttshell.   Some people called me a whiny complainer and that it's all in my head (husband!) and some people say I'm depressed (my internest!)!! But I'm not depressed--just in pain and that'swhat I like about this med Savella. It is for true fibro sufferers in PAIN.
Bottom line, I've been on it since september and it's changed my life for the better!  I had energy after the first week and though I did get a little nausious in the first couple of days, my neuro warned me I might experience it so I braced myself and was prepared for it and I kept going with the titration because my pain is just so severe it effects everything in my life.  I've tried everything--even pain killers but to be honest i became really dependent on them--they are so good!--but I can't function on pain killers for ever so I knew I needed another option and that is just what this med is!
So because of the nausea, my doctor prescribed me a month of the lower dose 25 mg and told me to take that two times a day and not the recommended dose of 50 bid.  This is working for me and a few others that I've read about online....I dont need to go higher.  My pain is so much more manageable--put it this way--I was able to host Thanksgiving this year and did most of the cooking myself--I had the energy because of Savella.  I do still take my sleeping pills on occasion though.  I only said lunesta because I got a coupon from my psych (I see a lot of docs lol) and with my insurance I got it for free for a year!  Funny taste--little bit metallic and works very similar to generic ambien but free is what I'm about at this point!  So I hope this helps some of you true fibro sufferers out there.  I'm in NY so I know what it's like to feel stressed that your in pain and too exhausted to force yourself to get to a job in which you have no more sick days left!! Work work work!!! It's very fast paced here but This combination has been working for me so I want to share the news!  smilewinkgrin

Hi Shoppashop, welcome to the forum, you fit right in! If you haven't already read Fibro 101
be sure to check it out. There is alot of good information for a fibromite. It is the second
thread on page one.

I am so glad the Savella is helping you. I also take Savella, 50 mg 2x daily and Flexeril
when I'm flaring. For most of us it is trial and error trying to find the right med combo.
We all tolerate meds differently. Finding time to exercise is important too!

So glad that you have found us. Come back to post often, we're happy you joined the family!

Thank you for the info. May give it a whirl. But not sure if I can take it with my Effexor xr or not.
Take trazadone for sleep. It is better than the lower dosage or elavil but could be better. I think it is also pain that wakes me too. I am gping to put some pain meds or a muscle relaxer next to bed tonight and take it if I need too. See if it helps me sleep longer than 5 hours tops.

Glad you found something for you that is wonderful news.
Keep us posted on the long term effects or any side effects you may encounter.

Hi Shoppashopp and welcome. I'm glad you found the right formula that works for you. I will have to do some research on savella. I work towards tolerable pain cause I don't think it will all ever be gone.
Like Robin said check out the fibro 101 thread if you haven't already.
luv and hugs

I can't take Savella, it raised my blood pressure by about 50 points and doubled my resting pulse rate. I'm glad it's working for you but keep an eye on your blood pressure.
