Hello everyone and hope that you are having a good day.  I have a question about weight loss.  How did you do it and keep motivated to lose?  I know that I need to do it and will feel better but have difficulty starting and staying on track.  Right now I am feeling depressed about my weight loss and the pain/achiness that I am feeling.  Regardless if I have Fibro or not, I still need to lose the weight.  I am also feeling anxious and very tired all the time.  Sometimes I do not have patience and find myself snapping at the kids.  This thread turned into a complaining session and I am sorry for that.  I feel that no one understands what I am feeling and when I express myself, it comes out as if I am whining or complaining.  Oh well, I need to try to stay positive.  Any suggestions?

Lisa, what motivated me was that I wanted to feel better and look better and not be panting when going up steps and walk with ease.  I have had weight problems since fifth grade and I'm now 62 years old.  It's not like I sat around eating all day long, either.  But, I was eating wrong.
Once I started counting carbs, I saw it was easy and I also started seeing my weight drop.  I would weigh myself every day.  Sometimes I could go several weeks without a drop in weight and then lose five pounds.  So, I never gave up.
Right below my name you will see a picture of an envelope.  Click on that and email me and I'll send you what I did...and am still doing.  You will NOT be hungry and you can enjoy all things with moderation.  This has been good for me and I'm not on a diet, either!

HI Shoeless, welcome to the world of fibro and all its beautiful symptoms! You are the first person I've heard mention one of my own symptoms, scalp blisters. They peel and make my scalp very uncomfortable. There are others here with sensitive scalps as well. I also take gabapentin and battle mad sugar cravings every night, so I've gained some weight as well. I'm totally "in the fog" tonight and rambling, so I'm going to stop. But welcome - this is a nice place to lose one's mind. :)

Edited: SO I completely forgot the point of why I answered this because of the "fog!" I don't like being without the gabapentin, so I'm slowly changing my diet to a gluten-free one to see if that helps. I definitely need to lose weight, and my motivation is simply that I want to look as "me" as I can. Vanity, thy name is Littleneck!

Thanks everyone for the support. I am seeing the Rhumey tomorrow. Let see what she has to say. She is a great person. I just need to focus on me now. I hear you about the "fog". I needed to quit my job because I could not focus on everything and could not multitask. It was so frustrating!

I have lost weight and kept it off.  I am giong to make a run at some more weight loss.  I need to lose more.  I have found that you can't do anything fast.  If it is fast, it won't last.  I try to make just one change at a time and to keep that change in place.  I added aerobic execise.  I do somehing everyday even if it is only a short twenty minute walk.  After a few weekds when that felt good and routine, I would add something else.  I would eat more veggies.  I work on one meal at a time too.  I adjusted breakfast first.
My recent change is to try to decrease all processed sugar.  I have a major sweet tooth and I find that when I eat too much sugar, I want more food over all!!!  I will even crave potato chips when I have eaten too many sweets.
Good luck.  I am right there with you.

Sugar can be the culprit.  When I eat sugar, it makes me want more.  It is a viscous cycle.
Losing weight is hard, especially with fibromyalgia.  It is hard to get started, but walking every day helps.  But do gentle stretching before and after, that helps easy the muscles into it and cool them down afterwards.  Even if you only walk a little in the beginning, you will build up and be able to walk more as time goes on.
Keep trying, and keep posting, we are here for both of you.
Hugs, Karen
