Hi all,

I'm new here but i have been reading a lot of what you have written over the last few days. Tuesday I'm going to a Rhematologist for the first time and i wanted to ask if there is anything that I should specifically ask him or bring up.

Here's my history: I'm 25 and over the past several months I've started having a lot of the symptoms of Fibromyalgia: the sleep problems, exhaustion all the time and not real severe but definite pain all over. Over the last week the pain has become terrible a well as other problems have gotten worse including grinding my teeth at night, whole body spasms, numbness throughout my body, the list goes on and on.

After doing a lot of research I think I may have Fibromyalgia (however my mom has Lupus and so I'm considering that as well).

I am going to see my mom's Rhematologist on Tuesday and I'm wondering if any of you have advice for my first appointment or at least can give me an idea of what to expect.

Thanks in advance!

Fibromyalgia is basically diagnosed through the process of elimination. If your mom has Lupus, then you will definately need to be tested for that. Fibro is diagnosed after everything else if has come back negative. If you think you have fibro, then tell the rheumy, but also tell him of the history of Lupus. You need to be prepared for the possibility of going for a long time without knowing what is going on with you. They have to rule out everything else first. I wish you luck with this. Let us know what the rheumetologist says. Best of luck.

Hi, and welcome!  Check out the Fibro 101 thread..the second thread on the forum.  You will find links to info about fibro, including a list of symptoms.  You might want to print that out and highlight all that pertain to you.  Also in fibro 101 are links to a pain journal and also to pain descriptions.  Keep a record of when you hurt and what you were doing, if anything.  This will help your doctor better understand what you are going through.

I'm sure they will run tests to rule out the various other illnesses that share many of the same symptoms.  Please let us know what you find out because we really do care.

I'm so glad you found us and joined in.  I hope to hear more from you soon.

Well I got all of my results back today. It's not Lupus, it's not my thyroid, it's not Rheumatoid Arthritis, and everything else looks good. Sooooo that means.... I don't really know. The doc put me on Cymbalta but I couldn't take it because I had horrible horrible side effects.

So I guess i'm back at square one.

Make sure a doctor checks you for Lyme disease.  That has many of the same symptoms, too.  Some on this forum have both fibro and Lyme.

What I did was printed a list of symptoms off the internet, hilighted the ones that applied to me and showed it to the doc.

Your not back to square one cause they are eliminating all the things besides fibro it could be and that is the only way to dx fibro. Did he do the tenderpoint test on you???

I was clueless when my doc was doing all the testing and didn't know anything about fibro til he told me I had it
