I have been wondering for awhile if I have fibro. I have pain and stiffness all the time. I have been taking low doses of thyroid for a year now and still suffer with these pains. I also take progesterone and a small dose of estrogen a day as well. I found this site and posted my symptoms in another post.

I just read the fibro 101 list of symptoms and I have almost all except for about 5 of them. I"m sure I have this condition.

I have been taking 2.5 grams of Malic acid a day with magnesium malate for more than a month as well as 6000 iu D3, 1200 calcium, iron, DHEA, super liquid multi with a lot of B vitamins, and d-ribose 5 grams.

The malic acid has not done a thing. I feel about the same.

I can get around, but my energy from being stiff is not great and I'd rather stay in pajamas and not do anything most days. I get up and do some mild exercise a few days a week, but have more pain right after. Walking is tough on my back and hips and I have to find place to sit and rest. Walking up the stairs hurts my thighs and knees. My neck and arms/shoulders are achy just sitting here typing.

I feel as if I've tried everything except the narcotic Lyrica. I want to wait awhile long while on the thyroid as I believe higher levels of T3 may be the answer. My doctor will only allow me 25mcg a day in my RX so I can't go up unless he allows me.

I thought the malic acid and the d-ribose were going to be the biggest help, but I feel as if I'm taking placebos with the vitamins and even the thyroid. However, I did notice that while I was on T3 hormone only for 3 weeks w/o the T4, I noticed some windows where I had less pain and more energy. This is why I'm thinking of doing T3 only and at higher doses, but I have to go by the doctor for now.

Anyone get good results with this malic acid? I'll keep taking it as it's suppose to be good for other things, but I'm doing the 2.5 grams a day with the magnesium malate and I also take 250 magnesium citrate at bed, but so far, I feel the same after about two months.

What about Mucinex? I'm a bit afraid of this protocol as I've read you will get more pain for awhile before it works. I don't want to get more pain and then have it not work and be in a cycle of worse pain.

I have had good results with Malic acid/magnesium supplements.  I take 3,300 mg of malic acid and a little over 700 mg of magnesium...counting magnesium in my multiple vitamin.  You have to take 2,400 mg of malic acid before good results least that's what happened in the study.  Read the link on Fibro 101.  I explain all about this.
Malic acid/magnesium supplements don't work for everyone, though.  But, there are quite a fe on this forum that have had good results with it.

I know. I've been taking 2.5 grams a day now for almost two months I think and 650mg of magnesium not counting what is in my multi. So far not doing anything at all.

I'm sorry this hasn't been working for you. I *think* it's Nana Monster that takes a lot of herbal remedies. Hopefully she will pop in and help you out with alternatives. After this time, you should have seen a difference with the malic acid. It only takes a couple of weeks for me.
fibromyalgia and possible trigeminal neuralgia
50 mgs amitriptyline daily, T3s for facial pain (really not appropriate med) and now tramacet

I know. I'll continue to take it as I think it's good for the body anyway.

it can take up to two months for your body to re-act to medications every one is different.
i would check with a homeopathic doctor.. it may be that something else you are taking is interferring with the malic acid and magnesium

or you are overloading your system with magnesium and malic acid
