I love my family with all my heart but I have been working on holidays since the first of Nov. I got up this morning just as DH was leaving for work, so happy they didn't have to do anything but the cath last Mon and he was able to go back to work today. Oldest son and DIL are on their way back to NC and I'm here all by myself, finally again, at last. smilewinkgrin

We had great holidays and I so enjoyed it but I'm so happy it is all over. No more pushing myself to stay on schedule in order to get everything done. I worked til I got tired today and stopped. Unless something unforeseen happens I can now work at MY pace and get back to the projects I was working on. It's been a long stressful road the past couple of months.

AHHHHH, SIGH!!! I'm on my way to take a nice hot shower to ease some of my aches and pains. turn

Be back soon.

luv and hugs

Marlee, I SOOO understand. I'm glad you said the words out loud. As much as I ADORE having my boys, DILs and grandsons here, it always puts such a strain on me and I always end up in bed for days after they leave. I do relate. I'm glad you can relax now. That hot shower sounds yummy! I might just jump into mine now too!!

I'm finally home from my parents' house and I am happy about it as well. It's time to breathe and relax. Thank God.

Glad you enjoyed your company, even if it was stressful. Take care of yourself now, you deserve it!

I'll slow down after New Years when the decorations are down. Right now I"m still trying to find room for all the new toys. I started doign a huge purge of the house, starting with the play room. I have 2 huge boxes of toys set to be put away. I told dh that he needs to look after storing anything I give him until summer, when we have a community yard sale. I can not stand to throw good things away. If I have the sale to look forward to, then I can be unscrupulous in my purging :)

Glad you all are relieved. As for me, I have youngest son's wedding on Thursday, so no relaxing yet. We are leaving for Florida on the 2nd and I hope I can rest then. Diane

My poor niece was born the 26th, she just turned 44, and never had great birthdays cause everyone was too tired.

Oh boy everyone. You make me feel so much less guilty! I love my family too, but could really use some space! My daughter, husband and their dog have lived here since March. They got a house and are moving out soon. I am really excited about having the house to myself. :) I just hope my other daughter and husband do not ask to move in after these guys move out!!!!!

I'll take my cleansing breath when I get the tree down and the decorations put away.  That won't be until Jauary 2nd.  I'm having a friend for dinner on New Year's Day then my entertaining days are over for awhile.

I know what you mean about family.  I have my family here for Thanksgiving.  I look forward to the holiday but by the time it arrives, I'm exhausted and I really look forward to when they all leave!  LOL  I love them a lot but it's just too much for me.  It doesn't get easier the older we get, huh, Marlee?  devil

I have one more New Year's Eve get together to get through, and then I'll be able to breathe.

I always have this irrational fear (maybe not totally irrational since it has happened before) that I will be sick and not be able to celebrate the holidays with my family. I sometimes miss some of the joy because I'm worrying about not being able to make it through. Definitely something I need to work on!

I love my family too and like to visit with them for short periods. I'm with Ben Franklin, though: "Guests, like fish, begin to smell after three days." (for some, that is 3 HOURS, lol) :)

Diane, our anniversary is on New Year's Eve too. The priest warned us against that date, but being young and foolish we thought we knew better. It was awesome when we were younger, there was always a party on our day. But you can forget the romantic dinners, every place is so crowded. And now we do nothing :( I keep asking dh to change the date when we celebrate, but he hates that idea. This year, we won't even see each other on our anniversary. I always book Christmas Eve off, as it's more important for me to be with the kids then. Dh works early, we trade the kids off when he gets done work (I'm taking the kids to town as we start/ end at the same time), and I close the bar at the restaurant that night. Oh, it's our 17th this year :D

I can sooooo relate! I'm taking a bit of a breath today, but its not over yet. Both my college kids are home from school. I love them like crazy, but they have a totally different lifestyle than DH and I have now.
I did all the Christmas shopping, decorating, cooking for Christmas eve, Christmas, cooking nice meals every night for the 4 of us, cooking a really nice meal for DH's birthday yesterday, and now New Year's is coming up. DD will return to school next weekend, after my birthday. DS will go back a week from then.
Oh.....and since Christmas eve, I've had a really bad cold!
Today, the 3 of them are at work, and its sooooooooooooo quiet and nice here! I'm finally able to feel okay about taking it easy, in hopes that my cold will heal sooner. I'm thankful the worst of my cold didn't happen until the day after Christmas day. Seems like the entire wonderful day is dependent on me, so I just couldn't be sick! I couldn't even use my CPAP machine 'cause I was so stuffed up.
So........yes, I'm taking a big cleansing breath of relief today too! :)

I hadn't heard that one for a long time Austen, love it. smilewinkgrin

I finally realized this year that there is something very wrong with this whole holiday thing in my family and it is going to change. I have the least energy of anyone in the family but I do all the work for Thanksgiving and our Christmas with the kids and grandkids. My DILs do not lift a finger to help with anything when they are here and I'm tired of it. They pick up the loot when they get ready to go home and leave the rest of the mess for me to clean up.

Next year I'm going to suggest we all meet at a motel and reserve a room to have Christmas in and I won't have to clean for weeks before and after. If they don't like the idea Dad and I will take a vacation during Christmas. The free ride is over.

That sounds like a good idea Marlee! I've always thought it would be so neat to go somewhere to a bed and breakfast with just my immediate family for Christmas, and forget all the other madness. Haven't been able to convince DH yet though.
Seriously.......I think your idea about reserving a room somewhere (hotel/restaurant) is a great idea for next year. Why don't you start letting people know of this plan well ahead of time, so they can get used to it. Its crazy that you have to do all the work.
