Hello,

Welcome
I take percocet too, I actually take a combination of meds during the day at work I take tramadol during the day and when I get home if the pain is bad, I take percocet. I also get migranes due to neck pain that I will take it for. To date, this is the best thing that releaves my pain.

Your body will almost always form a tolerance to any sort of pain medication, which usually means that the dosage has to be increased. It sucks, but unfortunately that's the way it worked. Maybe it's time for you to talk to your dr about a dosage increase.

Good luck and welcome to the forum!

I take oxycontin 20s and they worked well at first. I have been on them for over a year and believe they are barely (if anything) helping. I had percocet for awhile with it, but Dr is worried about my liver. I had asked my Rheum about Fentanyl patches and she said no, that was only for Cancer patients and such. I am going to ask my primary about that this week or next ...whenever I get in to see him.
My pain is awful...the sweating is literally like a living torture to me, and the only relief I get is when I can manage that one good night sleep. I also take Cymbalta, abilify, amitryptyline, have taken Lyrica with bad effects, take Klonipin blood pressure meds, blood sugar meds. Have taken Neurontin and even the new one ...what is that Lavazza or something like that....they gave me Tramadol 50s for breakthrough pain around Christmas. I need something new....something I don't have a tolerance for.

Hi,

I am new to this group too and already I feel part of a big family:-)

I also take Oxycodon along with some other meds. I do find that the Oxy is the only one that really helps to dull the pain. Nothing takes it awayshakehead

Right now I'm on 2 Lortab 5's every 6 hrs, I was on tramadol 50's every 6 hrs but after 6 months the max dosage wasn't helping. Aside from vitamins and Buspar those are the only meds I'm on. I dread the day they have to be increased, but they are the only thing that has given me something of a life in the 2 yrs I was DX'd

I was recently diagnosed with fibro. I have chronic daily headaches and suffer from migraine disorder also. I am currently on Oxycontin 60mg twice a day, amitryptiline (anti-depressant also used for sleep and as a preventive for migraines, lopressor (betablocker, my blood pressure goes off the charts with the pain) prilosec for acid reflux and still working on finding a good med for break thru pain (or as a rescue for migraines) I have flexeril for break thru muscle spasm pain. I have found that the oxycontin is the only thing that helps for the fibro pain and the daily headache. I was just increased to the 60mg and I feel pretty good so far. Yesterday though, I took a really hard fall on the sidewalk in front of the school before my daughter's basketball game. Needless to say, I have been in alot of pain today and I am pretty scraped up! Wishing you all a pain free day (well as pain free as possible).

I take Oxycodone on occation. This last month I haven't had to have any when I got put on Cymbalta 60mg. Due to insurance issues I got kicked off of the Cymbalta and am back to using the oxycodone which I hate to use. My poor PM Dr. Is trying to help me and did a very good job until the insurance was changed. Well I called the state insurance and I'm going to have my insurance changed back to what it was in Feb. 2010. I can't wait to get my Cymbalta back.

Yes, hydrocodone does. I take it only when my pain becomes unbearable for me, and when I am done with all my errands and necessary kid pick up and drop offs. I'm used to chronic pain (broken back at 16, so been in some level of pain for 20 years now, not including the fibro) but there are times when it is necessary in order for me to continue to function. I think it works well for me because I restrict myself to taking it only when I judge the pain to be severe, so I don't have any tolerance built up. Plus, I am always scared that my doctor won't refill (docs here in CA are really tight with the narcotic RX's) so there are times that I am in a lot of pain but choose not to take them because I am petrified of not having one at a later date if my pain is worse. So sometimes, my family has to live with grouchy mom in pain because I don't dare to "waste" a pill, which sometimes makes me really angry that I am made to feel like I have to live with pain, or be considered an addict even though it took me 5 months to go through a bottle of 25.

I also take nortriptyline fore migraine prevention, though only 10mg so I'm not noticing any help with that yet, but it has only been 2 1/2 weeks on that med. My mother in law takes 150mg for her fibro, so I'm hoping for some dual relief once we reach a good dosage.

Hi Grumpy,

As you are seeing, may of us take some forum of oxycodone. I take oxycontin and percocets for b/t pain. Yes, we do build up a tolerance but it's usually something that can be managed by a good doc. My primary doc takes control of my pain management. We work well together and he's open to suggestions. He also knows me very well and knows that I don't want to take any more than necessary. Forming this sort of relationship with your doc is so helpful when it comes to fighting pain. You might ask him for a referral to a pain management specialist who isn't afraid to prescribe what is needed for your pain. Some PM docs won't ever give a prescription for pills...end of story! Guess they have never suffered from fibro, huh???

Keep in touch,
Chutz

hey chutz
i do have a physiatrist and he just seems to ignore the problems i ask about and just write the script.......i would like to see another physiatrist but with medicaid i cant so i have to stick with what i have........i believe that people never fully understand or will they try to understand another persons problems until they are faced with the same problems thats why i always keep in the forefront of my mind that there is always someone out there with worse problems than my own

My current medications are:

Oxycontin, slow release, 20mg, twice a day
Cymbalta, 60mgs, twice a day
Tramacet, 37.5 mg, 2 tables every 4 to 6 hours

I had also been taking sleeping pills, but they never worked, so occasionally, I'll also take 2 extra strength Robaxacet at night

I had been on Percocet along with the Oxycontin and Cymbalta, but was having horrid insomnia and constipation...I'm finding this current cocktail is helping, as long as I stay on top of the doses - I generally take the Tramacet every 4 hours.

Hi. I'm new at this....I'm 26 and have intense chronic pain in my body for 2 years now. I have been on Hydrocodone for 2 years and it is not working anymore! I can barely finish a day of work and I have to call in atleast once a week because I'm in so much pain! I feel useless! Before all of this started, I did everything and now I can barely get out of bed...... I just don't know what to do anymore. I feel like my life has ended!

Hi JSummer,

Welcome to the forums - I'm sorry you're here because of pain, but it's a good group of people to share with and learn from.

Have you told your doctor the Hydrocodone isn't working any longer? If you've been diagnosed with Fibro, you might want to see if Lyrica or Cybalta will help, when taken with your current meds, or asking about something for break thru pain.

What type of work do you do? Is there any chance of you working part time, or going on modified duties, to give your body a break? There's lots of good info in the Fibro 101 post at the top of this forum and heat is your best friend...sometimes those long acting heat packs you can get make a big difference.

I hope you're able to get some answers and help here. Vent away...we all know what you're going thru. yeah

Hi Pam. I actually have an appoointment with my doctor Wednesday. I'm just scared to ask for something else because he already doesn't like me on Hydrocodone. I just don't want to be cut off. That's my biggest fear! And to your question about work-I'm a hairstylist and I rent a chair there. So I can come and go when I please......Which is great but I've lost a lot of clients because I'm not always available. It's very hard for me to even make it there for 3 hours : (

I can understand the pain of being a hairstylist... I took that up in high school. It is a very demanding job and is quite hard on the body. Most people wouldn't think that but your bending and sideways movements, they aren't easy to do when your in so much pain. I do cut my mom and dad's hair when i can. But i can assure you...only when i am not in a flare do i dare!!!
I take Cymbalta
Tramadol
Lyrica
and only Hydrocodone when absolutely needed, usually for sleep! I do not want to be hooked on it!! skull

Good luck, I hope you find real relief!! Laura :-)

I take oxycodone for break through pain.  75 mcg Fentanyl patches every 48 hours are the thing that helps the most, at least for the first 30 hours.  Toward the last 18 hours of the patch is when I need the Oxycodone

Post-traumatic Fibro onset after accident 10/05, diagnosed end of 8/06
Total right hip replacement due to osteoarthritis 8/1/06
Extra Hemi Vertibrae on top of T1 and below C7 (call it C8??)
resulting in scoliosis, last measured 40+ degrees.

meds: Cymbalata 60mg twice daily,
Lyrica quit taking...seemed to feel better 150mg 3 times daily
Oxycodone 10/325 up to 6 times daily, usually 3 or 4
Fentanyl patch 50mc 1 per 48 hours
Provigil 200 mg once daily
Zinc/Magnesium/Calcium
St. John's Wort.
....i'll take anything that won't make me naseaus

i totally understand the feeling of being useless for five years now i have not been able to work more than maybe six days in the five years.....that is to make enough money to really consider i had been useful to my family.........i wish i could tell you it will get better........it doesn't im sorry to be the bearer of bad news but the truth of the matter is you will have to keep that smile on your face and learn creative ways to deal with the pain.....luckily for me i have a very understanding wife.....well she has come to understand somewhat that im not full of it......that i am in as much pain as i am in.......its not an easy thing for people to wrap there heads around.....it was very hard for me to understand and accept....well i dont think i will ever accept it but i still try to fight it off......im sorry if alot of what i am saying doesnt make sense......its hard for me to get out complete thoughts anymore.......most of my mental focus these days is used up fighting off the pain......and thats another thing folks dont really understand about this affliction......it takes quite a bit of mental focus to deal with the problems of life without all of the pain that we got through......and with the pain it increasses a hundered times......im not telling you to give up im just asking you to prepare for the worst so you will be ready for it i wish i had been ready.....i wishi had know what was going on when i was 26....i just thought that it was everday normal aches and pains of someone who worked his butt off 12-14 hours a day building houses.......ooops turns out it was this awful problem that all my brothers and sisters here in the forum deal with on a daily basis one hour at a time......im not saying i dont have good days cuz i do they just dont come often enough for my liking......i wish you all the best your friend john

Hi GrumpyDog......I know exactly what you are saying...You're not being the bearer of bad news! LOL It has got so much worse over the past couple years! I just don't know what to do with myself anymore. I feel like my life it over.. I have a 9 year old son. Before all of this started to get really bad for me, I was able to do so much with him and now I can't..It really kills me! I'm so glad your wife is understanding. My husband says he is but deep down I'm not sure if that's true. I feel like he's really getting sick of it. When we met I did everything..ie: cleaned the house everyday,worked,dinner...etc...I used to be superwoman and now I'm....well....I'm sure you know. I guess things could always be worse and that's what I have to think about!

I was on Cymbalta for about a year and switched to Savella when it came out.  It seemed to help but now I think the dosage needs to be increased and I am hesitant to do that as I have FINALLY realized that both of these meds cause extreme sweating!  My heat level is so unbearable that it is ridiculous.  I live in Ohio and sleep nude with no covers in house that is kept at 65 at night!  I can break into a sweat for absolutely no reason.  At work I have a fan I carry everywhere with me.  I cannot take this anymore it is worse than hot flashes!

On another note - I have been getting massages once a week at the massage school near me.  This helps tremendously.  This past weekend friday, saturday and sunday I was in so much pain I was ready to go to the hospital to see if it was something other than my fibro (bladder infection, etd.)  I went for my massage and the girl spent the whole hour working my back and gluts!  Oh my gosh it hurt so good!  I went home took a hot shower and laid down for an hour and I was 50% better!  Today I am feeling pretty good and made it to work.

So if you can try massage therapy.  It is wonderful.  from now on I am going for only my back and gluts since those are my problem areas.
