That can be a symptom of lupus. Have you been checked for that ? It can also just be stress related, or perhaps dietary.

My cousin is dealing with that ... it came out in patches. She saw a dermatologist who gave her some small injections in her scalp and said that the bald spots would 'fill back in'. She has lots of diabetes in her family ... so the dermatologist suggested that she check with her family dr ... apparently hair loss is a symptom of diabetes too. So are looking into that right now, but I haven't heard any results yet.

I lose tons of hair whenever I have big hormone surges. (Beginning or after pregnancy, when I took depro shots, huge stress times like divorce, etc.) My mom lost a lot when she went through menopause too.

Geez, after reading this post, it's amazing that i have any hair left!

Seriously though, I would check with the dr about it. Good luck .. let us know what you find out.

When I was on a lot of medication, I lost a ton of hair every evening when I washed my hair.  My hands looked like hairy mitts!

Here is a link from the Mayo Clinic that talks about causes of hair loss.

I seem to lose a lot of hair and my hair is thinning as I age but I'm not bald. I have noticed the right side of my hair is thinner than the left for some reason. Since it has been doing this for so many years I think it has something to do with the thyroid med I take. That was the only med I was on for many years.

Opiumpoppy,
My, oh, my!  Where ever did you get your unusual handle?  Anyway, welcome to the forum.  You will find lots of friends, support, and information here.  As for the hair issue,  I lost quite a lot of hair when I went thru menopause but most of it came back altho it is thinner than when I was, say, 20!  I think the reason my hair loss was minimal was because I have worked hard to improve my diet in healthful ways and use vitamin suppliments.

Anyway, welcome and check back in often.

Welcome Poppy!

When I was a teen my hair fell out in clumps until I found out my thyroid was under active, I got a medicine for it and my hair stopped falling out. After about 3 yrs, my thyroid began to produce on it's own and I no longer need medication for it. Hypothyroidism can mimic fibro too, body aches, fatigue, and it also can cause dry skin, weight gain and hair loss among other things that the fog is keeping me from remembering LOL Definetely talk to your dr though and soon

Thanks guys for all those wonderful suggestions. I am going to check with Dr about Thyroid, had that done years ago so may pay to get it done again. But guess maybe its just another sideline of the Fibro.........Got my name because I grow poppies in my garden.

Welcome ...I am new here too and I just love it.

Many many years ago when I was a little girl and long before I was dx with fibro my hair fell out. Turned out to be alopechea. Doctors said it was due to stress. I was only four. What kind of stress did a 4 year old have? I truly think I was born with fibro and that was one of my first symptoms. Alopechea can hit anyone at anytime so you may want to look it up. Oh my hair did grow back in.
