I woke up this morning with even more pain in my right arm than usual. From my shoulder all the way into my hand. My fingers and hand are swollen. So I went to see the Dr. and he says it's gout! He gave me diclofenac to take and told me to see him in a week, sooner if the pain doesn't get any better. He says its a form of arthritis, and can be triggered by different things including alcohol. I don't drink so that is not what caused it. I am just wondering if anyone else has had gout? My doc says it's not uncommon for fibromites to experience bouts of it. Hope everyone is doing well today...thanks in advance for any comments or insight.

Shannon, my doctor said I might have had gout in my feet.  He had me take colchacine but it gave me diarrhea and so I stopped taking it after a few days.  The pain and swelling went away.  So, I'm not sure if I had it or not but it sure is painful.

Yes it is. My arm is hurting so bad. Sending shooting pains down my arm. What next, is all I can think right now. I feel like such a big baby sometimes! Thanks for responding Sherrine.

I take ibuprofen with food and extra strength Tylenol to help with pain so perhaps you could use some of that to help with the discomfort.  Check with your doctor or pharmacist.  It does take the edge off for me.  Plus, your medication should be kicking in soon.  I sure hope  you are feeling better soon.

You are not a cry baby.  I know it really hurts a lot.  Try to get busy doing something that you don't have to use that arm so much.  Do a little searching on the Internet, etc. and that will help you take your mind off the discomfort.  Feel better.

Hi Shannon.  I don't get gout but my husband does.  We have a 'gout' cane by the door!  He was told it was caused by uric acid crystals that settle in the joints and that green leafy vegetables can cause it (in abundance) and yes, alcohol.  His is ALWAYS trigged by eating anchoives.  Yuck...but he loves them.  He also gets it in the same big toe.  I know it is very painful put the drug you were prescribed should take care of it.  Feel better...

Thank you so much...gosh I love this place! No matter what seems to be going on I can come here and feel like I belong! I have been doing some reading and it does seem to usually start in the big toe, wierd...mine is in my arm and hand. Oh well Mom always said to try and be different! Thanks again Sherrine and Donna!

I don't have gout, but my dh suffers with it constantly.  The dr. prescribed colchacine for it and he also takes concentrated cherry juice that he buys at the health food store.
He is like Sherrine about the diarrhea, but he has to suffer with it too.  The reason he gets is so often is because he takes a mega dose of water pills for congestive heart failure and it leaves the crystals in his body.  He is supposed to stay away from any meat organs such as chicken livers or beef liver and most red meats.  He says it's the most painful thing that he suffers with so I can imagine what your going through.
Try the cherry juice and see if it might help.

God Bless!
