Hi everyone, I hope everybody is having a good day.
My day started as an ok day. Ive been having a lot of pain on my lower back and I found out I have a winged scapula which is causing me a lot of pain. I didnt think my shoulder or my back pain was due to Fibro, so my doctor refer me to a physiatrist (pain management). Physical therapy increased my pain and flares. I went today to the doctor and explain him about physical therapy. He started to attack me asking me what did I wanted in life. He said that my pain doesnt make sense and asked me if I was making it up to get out of the military. I couldnt believe it. I started crying, I was frustrated and hurt. I love my uniform and I want to stay in the Air Force. This doctor know I have fibro and still attacked me thinking my pain was fake. Ive been out of my depression for almost three months and today this doctor destroy my morale and my spirit.  Does anybody has lower back pain that radiates to your legs ? Is this Fibro?

I put your sad face in for you because it belongs with this post.  That's horrible that your doctor won't listen.  His problem is he can't figure this out and so it is a reflection on him.  If you can see another doctor, please do so.
I have had lower pain go down my legs.  But that can easily be sciatica.  The sciatic nerve runs down the legs and it can be very painful.  It possibly could be fibro pain, too.  I've had pain just about everywhere at one time or another.
But, since I'm not a doctor, I highly suggest that you find a doctor that understands fibromyalgia and will also consider that this could be something else, too.  Find a doctor that won't insult you, either.  You treated them with respect and you should expect the same.  Please let us know what you do.

Julianis, it sure can be frustrating when you hurt, then go to a doctor and he makes you feel
worse. Is it possible for you to find another doctor? Staying with a doctor who doesn't
believe you have pain will do nothing to help you alleviate it.

The lower back pain you feel might be a disc problem putting pressure on the sciatic nerve.
That can cause pain running down your legs. I had surgery but still sometimes will be
aggravated with Sciatica. My doc will prescribe an antinflamatory med like Mobic for relief.
Heat helps some. Hoping you can find a new doc and get the respect and treatment you

Shame on your doctor nono nono . Sounds like he is a doctor that does not believe or understand fibro. He had no right to say those things. I'm sorry that he did that to you. A good doctor that knows fibro for what it is, will never do that to you. Chalk him up to being a donkey's rear and find another doctor. It's so very sad that people especially a doctor does not understand.
Hugs and mor Hugs to you!!

Your post was very helpful. I googled "winged scapula" and saw pictures that matched my husband's shoulder. He doesn't have much pain from it so the docs haven't paid much attention and never told us what it was. Now we know what it is and he is going to get a referral to a specialist so he can get treatment for it.

Hi Julianis!

And welcome to the family! I agree with those who've already posted. This doctor needs to get a different job since he's broken the Hippocratic Oath he took. An excerpt from that oath is...

"I will follow that system of regimen which, according to my ability and judgment, I consider for the benefit of my patients, and abstain from whatever is deleterious and mischievous." Modern doctors have updated the phrase to, "The health of my patient will be my first consideration." Facing life-and-death decisions every day, doctors take this pledge very seriously.

Doesn't sound like he has your benefit in mind at all. I have spent a lifetime being around folks in the military since where we live is between several bases, and I can tell you that those who serve honor their country and their oath they take.

Please try to dismiss this jerk and find someone else who you can trust and really talk to. It's hard to shake it off but we'll be here to help you through it. Get up on your feet and on Monday get the phone in your hand and get busy finding someone who can help. You might look for a teaching/university hospital in your area and get an appointment with a doctor there. They won't treat you the way this guy did. They will find what's wrong and get to the best treatment they possibly can. Here's a link to many of the teaching hospitals worldwide.

Good Luck!

HOW DARE HE SAY THAT TO YOU!!! We are a military family and proud of it. Okay, sorry but I don't have a lot of faith in military doctors myself but that is just my opinion, I'm sure there are some somewhere. I was so happy when my DH retired and didn't have to deal with them any longer. This man is the disgrace to the uniform. Please don't let his hurtful, ignorant words get to you and depress you. Like Jeannie says 50% of all docs graduate at the bottom of their class and he must have been the bottom one.
Chutz, I tried to get in to see a doc at SIU not too far from me and they wouldn't take our military ins. I don't know if they are all like that but it wouldn't hurt to try Julianis. If they won't take it there are still many good docs out there that will.
luv and hugs

It sounds like a bit of siatiga to me. I have that as well. I'm still working on my SSI. I'm going to an appointment on Friday in the worst place in western Washington in the late afternoon (FIFE) OMG! But that's for my mental health evaluation. My anxiety is already at it's highest and it's only Tuesday.

The leg pain thing sounds like sciatic. I had it to the point 2 weeks ago that I could barely drive. I had to drive to Syracuse with
my Grandaughter and was literally cringing and moaning in pain. She asked if I wanted her to drive but she's only 13, even though
she could drive the stick. I have a 5 speed Izuzu and let me tell you, going the the gears every time I stopped was hell.
I went to the herbal shop and they got me on a combo pill that has Magnesium, Calcium, Vit D, Zinc, Maltodextrin, Cellulose,
Silica and Steric Acid. It seems to be working great as I can finally drive with minimun discomfort. The NOW brand label says
Magnesium and Calcium for nerve and bone support. I've been doing 2 tabs in morn and 2 at nite.

I have sciatica too and get it fixed (for a few months at least) with depomedrol injections in my spine at L5S1. Immediate relief for me! I go to a pain clinic. I was sent there by my rheumatologist who dx'd my fibro.

First I was prescribed an MRI of my lumbar spine, then exercises, when I went to a spine surgeon. No help at all. You can look up differential diagnosis for sciatica and pinched nerve in piriformis muscle to figure out for yourself which it might be. There are exercises for piriformis stretches on the web. But that did nothing for me.

I get that kind of back pain. But if you have other things going on with your back other than Fibro, then it needs to be addressed. I cannot believe this doctor attacked you the way he did! Is there any other doctor you can see? If not, then the next time you see him, you need to stand up to him. Tell him you don't appreciate the things he said to you. Tell him that your pain IS real, and that you love your uniform very much. No one deserves to be attacked that way. I am so sorry you are going through such a hard time. I hope it all works out. Remember that if you want your point of view known and understood, that you need to stand up for yourself. In the end, you are the one who has to stand up for what is right for you. Keep us posted on this. Hang in there.

oh my goodness what a jerk. Evidently he knows nothing about fibro.  My daughter also has fibro and she is constantly complaining about her back and legs.  The doctor told her it could well be her fibro doing that.  Please find yourself a better doctor. No doctor should treat their patient that way.  nono We need all the help we can get with pain. My daughter goes to a pain clinic and they have helped her tremenlessly. I am going in 3 weeks myself. We have to watch out for each other. Good Luck.

Thank you everybody for their post. It definetly make me feel better and at least I know Im not crazy or too sensitive. Since my military performance speak for itself, my leadership knows faking pain to get out of the miitary it is not my case. They had seen me on good days and on bad days and they know Im not a good faker. So, when they heard my doctor story they were as upset as all of you were. They are currently making all efforts to block that doctor from the military health care contract. Again thank you all for your support as always. I hope everybody is having a good day today
