I have been having bad leg cramps at night about once or twice a week for the last couple of months. I usually get them around 2 or 3 in the morning when I seem to finally fall into a deep sleep. They feel like the growing pains I used to get as a kid. I have to get up and take something and then I lay in bed and whine until the pain stops and I can go back to sleep. I went to the Doctor's today and she gave me prenatal vitamins for it. Has anyone else experienced this? Just curious. Oh and good news, she took blood and is going to have my vitamin D level checked as well as my b-12 and some other things. I'm really happy because I have been wanting to know my levels and my insurance wouldn't pay. With the new symptoms she can now have them checked, so I guess that's one good thing! :)
Gentle Hugs,
Shannon

I have dealt with leg cramps at night for some years now.  I will go long periods and not get them and then at times I will get them several  nights a week.  I take a calcium magnesium liquid that seems to help and when I am getting them really bad I will eat bananas and those also help.  Hope this gets better for you, I know how painful they can be not to mention it interrupts what little sleep we fibromites might be getting.

Hi Shannon,

I've been lucky in that I don't experience leg cramps that often, but when I have had them, I've found using a heating medication like Tiger Balm or A5-35 rub helps me...not sure why, but I do get relief.

As a person who has major sleep issues, I can really sympathize with you...it's an awful thing to lose even more sleep because of pain, cramps, etc. I hope you're able to learn something from your blood tests and perhaps your doctor can recommend something for you.

hugs,
Pam

I had leg and mainly foot cramps for several years.  Then I found out I had osteoporosis and started taking two Citracal supplements a day.  Once I started that, the cramping stopped!  So, I searched it out and a lack of calcium can cause these cramps!  Perhaps that's what is going on with you.

Potassium deficiency can also cause cramping. Try eating a bananna daily or drink more
orange juice or V-8. Hope you find some relief!
