Hello everyone,
just found this forum been reading thought id post a little about my experience. I had been havin symptoms for a few years and was first told somatization disorder then a GP handed me leaflet on Fibromyalgia only a few months ago. I found a site with all symptoms and nearly them all matched all the chemical sensitivities fatigue pain etc. I have had PTSD for years and my psychiatrist told me yes fibro and yes cfs, why or how somatization fits in I am not sure. Having a real hard time knowing what is going on. There are two symptoms that worry me greatly and I wondered if anyone can relate. First is chest pain coming on as a squeezng pain mid chest between breasts. Resting ECGs have read okay but i see a cardiologist for the first time on thursday for stress ecg and echo. I pray nothin is wrong with my heart cos i feel i have just enough strength to fight this illness. The second is facial numbness that occurs out of the blue and can spread from my check upwards to my eyebrows and downwards to my mouth. I do have carpal tunnel too and always wake up with numbness in hands. Right now I am at the stage where I am just learning, and not sure what is best way forward. Finding it pretty hard to accept, and wondering what is going to happen next. I ended up at hosp one night with dizziness vertigo lack of balance and doctor there said perhaps i should be screened for MS. Is it possible that all these conditions could have developed within three years or does fibromyalgia mimic MS im so lost and my doctors seem uninformed about this condition and how it affects us.

Hi, Ohsofibro, and welcome!  The chest pain can be something called costochondritis.  It can affect your chest and rib cage...almost like there is a tight band around you and it can hurt to breathe.  I have this and my doctor has me taking Ibuprofen with food for it.  I did have a complete cardio workup when this started so you are doing the right thing.  Most likely you are fine but it's good to find out for sure.
I have had a little facial numbness but only on my chin.
Fibromyalgia had many of the same symptoms as MS, rheumatoid arthritis, lupus, Lyme disease, to name a few.  So this might be what is going on.  The doctors will run tests to rule out the other illnesses before a diagnosis of fibro is given.
Be sure to check out Fibro 101...the second thread on the forum.  There are links to good information including a link on costochondritis and What Else Could It Be.  There is also a list of symptoms, too.  You will learn a lot there.
I'm so glad you found us and joined in.  We are here to help you.  I hope to hear more from you soon.

Hi ohsofibro, welcome to our family! This forum is great, lots of people who really care.
We are here for one another.

Fibro does have many of the same symptoms of other disorders, that is why it takes so
long to get a dx. You want your doctor to be thorough so that other conditions can be
ruled out. Seeing a cardiologist will give you peace of mind. Think of each test as a stepping
stone towards getting proper treatment to help alleviate your symptoms.
Wishing you good luck and glad you have joined us. Keep us posted!

Hugs, Robin

Sorry you are having chest pain. I am having it too. It can be real bad and scary. I went to a cardio. and had many tests ( heart monitor for a month, echo, ekg) she told me I had dysautonomia which is not a heart condition but a vagus nerve problem. ( I was later told I didn't have this by a specialist ). I am glad I had the test done on my heart. It is better to check out any chest pain.

When I first started showing signs of FM I had a lot of neurological symptoms. Bells Palsey, headaches, blurred vision, vertigo. I had an MRI and was given pain meds. I was checked for MS. All tests came back normal.

Later I went to a reheum. cause I thought I had lupus. Even had the redness across my cheeks. She did lots of blood work. Everything came back normal. She tested me by doing the trigger point test. I had pain in all of them. I was then dx with FM.

Long journey to get to where I am now. Test are something that we need to do inorder to rule out other conditions. FM can be very hard to deal with. Just try and stay positive through all of this. You are in my prayers.
I struggle with FM,Raynauds Syndrome, gastroparesis, IBS and depression. I trust in God with all things. Been a tough journey and it's not getting any easier but thanks to God and my family I am not alone.

Thank you for such a nice welcome girls. Means a lot. I have read on chostochondritis but I just need the reassurance that my heart is okay. Can't get it out of my head that its something worse, and the worry is no good when you deal with this on a daily basis. Glad your tets came back good Sheila. Like you I have had a lot of neurological conditions and until fibromyalgia was even mentioned I just didn't understand anything only had been told somatization disorder. I find it a little scary how symptoms just keep piling up. I have had chemical sensitivities building for a few years but now it is going into medications. Last few times I have taken Cocodamol I feel this warmth spreading inside. I used to take my grandmothers for a headache years ago and never felt anything like that so i guess ill be sticking with anti inflammatories now. I just find it so hard to be understood by my doctor and really feel im having to fight for my rights in everything.

Hi, I know what you mean about the symptoms piling up. Everytime I went to the doctor it was something different than what I even made the appt for. I have a friend with MS and her symptoms are very similar. I think I read that you had a brain MRI, that is good!

about the chest pain, I get pressure that turns into pain from anxiety occasionally. Sometimes it is better to just switch to a fibro friendly doctor. Good Luck and keep posting here where we have all been thru similar circumstances.

Hi Ohsofibro,

Welcome to the forum. I am so happy that you have joined us, but sorry you have to live with the fibro. But you are among people who understand what you are going through and can relate to your pain.

I hope that you feel better soon. Take care, and keep posting.'
