I'm sure we've played this one before but today I was thinking how silly/stupid/maddening it is when small things cause so much pain. So...let's all fill in the blanks and let it go...

You know the pain is bad when (fill in the blank)

You are pealing an apple with a paring knife and hubby has to take over because the act of peeling makes my ribs scream with pain! How stupid is that??

Your turn..

You know the pain is bad when your husband looks at you and tells you to stop crunching up your face.

I struggle with FM,Raynauds Syndrome, gastroparesis, IBS and depression. I trust in God with all things. Been a tough journey and it's not getting any easier but thanks to God and my family I am not alone.

You know the pain is bad when you simply bump your wrist on something and it aches the rest of the day.  I'll be working and bump my hand or wrist and it will ache so bad that I think there should be a body parts store cuz I really wanna buy a new hand or wrist at that present time.

Other occupations: heartburn fighter, migraine massage therapist, fibromyalgia trainer, sinus plummer, allergic vet, weather girl and jar pickles loosener.

Translation: I have heartburn, IBS, fibromyalgia, migraine-like headaches, sinus issues, allergies to cigarette smoke, perfume and animals, sensitive to weather-body heat issues and possible RA in hands, wrists and feet.

When your daughter comes into your room in the middle of the night and you are sitting up and rocking and grinding your teeth while sleeping. I also catch myself rocking when I am awake and hurting, weird.

You know the pain is bad when you have to put your arm in a sling to keep it immobile, even though it isn't sprained or broken.

One more.... You know the pain is bad when you suffer through the dirty looks, comments, and humiliation of trying out 1,347,859 carts at Walmart, trying to find one that rolls halfway straight so your body won't be screaming in pain before you even make it to the chocolate aisle.

You know the pain is bad when you hand your 16 year old daughter a jar to open for you.

You know the pain is bad when you hobble down your stairs one step at a time.

I like the scrunched face comment. My husband told me that once too.

You know the pain is bad when you can't stand to carry your groceries up 6 steps leading to the deck without stopping to let it subside a little.  (my husband keeps saying he is going to build me a ramp).

When it hurts to lift your arm to hang your handicap placard around the rear view mirror.  When a piece of a pretzel, barely visible to the naked eye is on the sheet and it feels like you are sleeping on shards of glass.  When the bows of your glasses feel like they are drilling for oil on that bone behind your ear.

...when you go out to the driveway and squat down (bending over is a no-no,) take the Sunday newspaper out of its wrapper, keep about one-third to carry in yourself, and put the rest back in for someone else to get later because if you carried in the whole thing your body would hate you for days.

Donna, I love your descrition of finding a straight-rolling cart! It's amazing how little patience onlookers have sometimes.

when your hubby tries to be helpful and take the cart from you to push it for you and you growl at him because the cart is the only thing helping you stand at the moment :)

Oh boy does it hurt to scratch an itch. I feel like I've been punched on the arm after or like I have a bruise there.

You know the pain is bad when you are talking about something important, and mid-conversation, drift off into a fog, totally forgetting what you were talking about.

You know the pain is bad... when you do an internet search for a chat group of people who will understand.
When it hurts to sit... are there really muscle on the front of my thighs and why do they hurt so much.
when you can't wear a shoe (at least on the right foot) because it feels like a hot poker branding your toes.
when it takes all day to do what you used to do in 1 hour.
Thank you all for understanding. and I will also try to let it go!

Hi WannaSew!

I'm so glad to find you in this thread...I see it's your first post so welcome to the family!! Your name caught my eye as I'm an avid sewer too...mostly quilting. I love the creativity although I've never thought of myself as someone who's very creative. But with fabric piled all around my mind gets to working and I forget about pain.

And...you know the pain is bad when you can't hold a needle and thread to sew a few stitches!

Chutz,

How true about the needle and thread. I never knew what was causing that until I was diagnosed. I went to school for phlebotomy and and could never work because, of course, I need my hands to work to be able to draw blood.

FMSaddenedSpirit- Have you tried any meds yet for Fibro like Savella or Lyrica? I used to be in the same pain that you described in your post and I'm now taking Savella. It has helped me so much. I am not pain free, but I don't have that horrible pain anymore like you described. There were times that I didn't want to wake up because the only time I didn't feel pain was when I was sleeping. I felt like a patient that just came out of major surgery with no pain meds. That's how I would wake up.

Gosh, txplowgirl, that sounds like me on one of my bad days! It used to break my heart when I couldn't pick up my youngest. When she was a toddler, she could climb onto my lap, but there were days when that was even too much.

You know the pain is bad when you choose to sleep on the soft couch with blankets under your knees and head instead of in the soft-ish bed next to the hubby.

I love my hubby but I know that depending on the night and depending on the evil DD, I could be up and down all night long from the Crohns or from the FM pain. I have a body pillow that I can't quite make comfy in my bed an I don't want to wake the hubby up and down when he's working full time. But I sure do miss sleeping beside him.
