Hey Healingwell Family!
I am looking for a "family" referral for a good pain mgt doctor in the Chicago area or surrounding area. I live about 2 hours south actually but Chi-town is the closest bigger city. I have tried every preventative medicine (ant-epileptics, anti-depressants, muscles relaxers, etc) of every different type and flavor. And I am no longer interested in trying anything more of that variety- its too hard on my life, my job and my loved ones. I need a pain mgt doctor who is responsible, capable and well-versed in treating fibromyalgia pain with actual pain medications that do nothing more than just control pain. I realize that these doctors are rare but very valuable resources. So anything that anyone can do to help me find one near me would me much appreciated.

P.S. Please, in advance, if this is not a route that you choose for yourself I respect that. And ask that you not try to dissuade my decision as it was not made lightly but took a lot of soul searching and research. So please don't make this any harder on me than it already has been. And I am asking this with all the respect and love in my heart for all of the tough decisions that we all make every day.
Dx'd: TMJ-1997; High Blood Pressure- 2007; Fibromyalgia- 2008; Raynaud's- 2008;

Medications- Who can keep up? If its out there for what I have or might work to prevent pain for what I have then I have tried it. But actual pain relievers- not so easy to get in the Land of the Free.

Hello SadSickTired,
I live north of Chicago, in the northern burbs. I have been seeing rheumatologists at Illinois Bone and Joint Institute and there are several locations. I had been with one for well over 10 years, but she retired two years ago. I have seen several since then, all of them with Il Bone and Joint. They do manage pain with prescription medications. They also will do epidural injections and offer water therapy. Also have a rehab and physical therapy center.

I hope this helps you,
Miriam

I understand. What I need when my pain gets bad is Darvocet. C'est la vie.
