So........ I was watching this show last night on TV called "Cold Case", there's a scene with a husband and wife sitting at their kitchen table being questioned about a murder. The wife says something that implicates the husband in the murder and he says" Don't listen her she's on medication....." she says something else and he says, "Do you know how much medication she is on for her fibromyalgia?"Finally she says something that nails him for this murder and he says, "Are you going to believe this whack job with her made up disease?!?!" Well I didn't know whether to laugh or cry, that's only the second time I've ever heard it mentioned on television. The first time was on a reality show that a woman was diagnosed with fibromyalgia and lost her job and then started hoarding.

I saw it mentioned on House as a possibe reason for a man's chronic pain, and House rolled his eyes when one of the other team members suggested it.  (I think it was House...hmmmm.)  I guess if we are hard pressed to find a doctor that believes the disease is real we can't expect Hollywood to take it seriously.  They're too busy filling the airwaves with Reality television, which includes exploiting other disabilites.

I saw that episode of "Hoarders," too! Funny. I kept thinking, "How does she get all that stuff in her car and then her house?" (Because I couldn't have.)
It seems to me that any publicity is good, in a way - at least it puts Fibro in the public's awareness. It's a start. Now if we could just find a much-admired public figure who has it....

I wouldn't get upset about that.  Consider the source.  That's why we call it the "boob tube"!  smilewinkgrin

Consider how far downhill the boob tube has went down in the last 30 years. I was just telling my niece when I was a child, we weren't expose to what they are now.

Last night tried to watch Law and Order couldn't because I didn't want my children expose to that.

I am sick of all the reality tv shows actually. I sit there and wonder what kind of sick people could sit and watch all day long. Then I realize that I am doing the same thing. But it just blows my mind to see what people would do to get on tv and what they do to get the attention of all of America. Wow, it is something else.

I do understand what you are saying though. The public eye just thinks of fibromyalgia as this classification that you get if they don't know what else is wrong with you. But there are people working on that now. Everyday of the week. Trying to understand this disorder better. And more and more people are getting it. Look at us all, we all have it. But it has brought us together and that is a good thing. As long as we have eachother we will make it!

Hugs, Karen

I agree! And I don't think most of us are the type to just fade away quietly and decide the naysayers are right!
