My skin on my face is beginning to thicken and tighten due Scleroderma. My big
fear is that I'm going to lose my ability to smile. I have see enough Scleroderma
pictures to know that this is a possibility. I can cope with pain but the thought
of losing my smile saddens me. Up until this point my scleroderma has mainly
affected my arm. I have 3 inch "dent"...linear morphea with some atrophy and a
small "dent" on the side of my nose. Every morning I do stretching execises of my
face. One thing that is good...my wrinkles are filling in and my lips are getting
thinner...save money on lip stick lol.

I don't even know why I'm posting this but just typing it out makes me feel better.
Even if I lose my smile, I will be the woman with smiling eyes that are shining:)

Hi Crazykitty~Your post is so touching, I just had to reply and say that the eyes are the windows to the soul, and that my heart goes out to you.

Robin, you took the words right out of my mouth...the smiling eyes!  They say your eyes are the window to your soul and you have an especially wonderful, loving, and compassionate soul so people will see that in your eyes.

You know, as well as I do, that it's what's inside of you that counts!  People sense that a mile away..just like they can sense shallowness.  So, try not to worry about that too much.  If you do lose your smile, your goodness will outshine any smile in the room!

I will keep this in my prayers.  I know it means a lot to you.

Hi Robin,

I hope that you don't lose your smile, but as everybody else said, your eyes will shine through. I smile with my eyes a lot. And people always smile back. So let your personality show through. You are in my thoughts and prayers.

Hugs, Karen

I agree with the other post.  One of the things I am known for at work is my smile and bubbly personality, but if I ever had something that caused me not to smile I think people could see it in my eyes, because it comes from my heart.  I just wanted to assure you that people will see that smile that comes from your heart.

God Bless!

Robin,
I also hope you do not lose your smile.  It must be scary to think it might happen.  But you are right, your eyes will still smile and that is good.

Gentle hugs,
Sue

Robin, here's a little poem I wrote for you...I hope you like it

A smile is such a simple thing
It brightens every day
But when your lips can't smile again
There's still another way

Your eyes are truly windows
to your soul, and mind and heart
So let your eyes reflect your lips
That's where your smile can start

A smile is like a tiny seed
that starts a friendship growing,
with a simple heartfelt message...
"You’re someone well worth knowing"

So use your eyes to share your light
And start a great new style
when people come together
In exchanging ‘just a smile’

hugs,
Pam

Thank you for your sweet replies, they really touched my heart. Pam your poem was
beautiful, it brought me to tears. I will be printing it out, framing it and keeping it on
my desk. You are a gifted writer.

I believe a genuine smile is first worn in the heart. Sending you all a smile :)

I 'sense' your beautiful smile every time you post...I know you will never lose your ability to fill our hearts with love and hope.  To me, you are far more than a faceless stranger in cyber space.  Thank you for being in our lives.
