How many are wondering how safe the fish oil is going to be with the disaster in the gulf contaminating everything?  I am thinking of switching to only flax when the fish oil runs out.  Opinions anyone

Good question.  I take fish oil everyday.  I haven't thought of this.  I guess it would depend on how much of the fish that our oil comes from comes out of the gulf.

I live in Tampa Bay.  The water here is gorgeous and my daughter was jet skiing yesterday in the Gulf.  I know the news makes it sound like the Gulf is a mess but it's the northern part that is affected right now.  I'm praying that they stop the leak and that the skimmer ships can get rid of most of the oil.  The skimmer ships should have been there weeks ago!  In the areas that are badly affected, they are not allowing fishing, oystering or shrimping.  So the fish, oysters, and shrimp you can get in the markets are safe.

Also, did you know that natural cracks in the ocean floors around the world allows oil to leak in the water?  But, there are natural organisms that eat the oil!  This has gone on since the beginning of time.  It's amazing!  Here is a link about it.

So, in answer to your question, I wouldn't hesitate taking fish oil capsules.

Ah Sherrine, the voice of reason!!  It sounds like a great place that you live.  I love Florida, have been there quite a few times but not in a long while.  We used to go to Venice for family vacations and I have a great collection of fossil sharks teeth and shells.

I haven't tolerated any of several fish oil products I've tried. The pills are too big for me to swallow (post-polio of throat), and contain something (probably sulfite from the fish being sprayed to prevent spoilage right in the boat) causing my allergic response (tachycardia). Flax oil doesn't have as many of the omegas, pills too big, smells too bad to consume after squeezing out of gel cap, even in orange juice.
Krill, from the antarctic, has only omega 3, but at least the pills are small enough to swallow.

Who really knows if any of this is really any good? I haven't read any good SCIENTIFIC papers yet. I'm not allergic to fresh or canned fish or any other seafood. I do wash it thoroughly, since it's usually sprayed with preservatives.

Kind of like would you rather eat a real Orange or drink the sugar-laden juice eh

I am a fan of American Tuna -Pole Caught. Not mushy @ all. Perfectly chunked/chunky and tastes fresh and high in Omega 3 oils.....which most cans of tuna seem to have very little of. Just my 0.02

Archie, I really wish I loved fish, but I don't.  I might have it four or five times a year.  There are very few types of fish that I will eat and a little fish goes a long way for me.  I'm glad you can enjoy eating healthy though!  That's wonderful.

Sherrine, I made Tilapia last night and it was delicious..  Tilapia with margarine, garlic & lemon squeezed and some zest.  Top with a tomato slice and bread crumbs with the melted butter and romano cheese mixed in.  Even my hubby and mother-in-law loved it  tongue
