Boy, what a day... I don't understand how some doctors keep their license and stay in practice and why in general you have to fight so hard to get the attention you need. My 19 year old daughter was diagnosed with severe fibromyalgia and Cronic Myofacial Pain about 6 months ago. Her husband is in the army and in Iraq. Three weeks ago her primary care doctor put her on Cymbalta, she see's a rheumy but her primary doctor told her that she had to put all of her healthcare through him.. Well, she started the cymbalta all he told her was that it would make her feel better. She had violent side effects, teeth chattering, fever, nausea the whole nine yards... She called me , I said, call you doctor. When she called she got the nurse on the phone and was told, "you're not taking the cymbalta for fibromyalgia, your taking it for mental issues"  The doctor would not come talk to her. about 4 hours later he called her back and told her that no one can be in that much pain and I find nothing wrong with you, I thing you need to got get some psychiatric help.....That doctor better be happy I'm no where near him. She called me and I told her to call her Rheumy... She took over and was very upset with the doctor. Took her off the Cymbalta, thank God and now the Rheumy and the NEW pain management doctor are taking over care. The Rheumy was very upset over the whole thing.  My daughter is so young, she just takes what she's told and try's to manage through it. NOW she know's that she can go dirrectly to her Rheumy and Pain management doctors. They told her today to be patient and they would work with medications to find the right combination. She had to call a friend this morning to help her get dressed. Please keep her in your prayers. Her name is Alysha.
OK, now I need to get back to my own deep breathing or I'm gonna be back in the same boat.
Thanks for listening.

I am glad that the rheumy and pain management doctor are now in charge of Alysha's
care. There are too many doctors out there who are not educated about fibromyalgia
and that is upsetting. How many people are questioning their own sanity when there are
doctors that tell is all in your head. Not all doctors should be doctors!

Praying that Alysha gets the proper care she needs and finds some relief soon!

Oh, your story made me so mad!  What is wrong mad with these doctors who want to play God?  The same thing happened to my sister-in-law years ago - it was a neurologist.  Changed all her meds without even talking to her!  (Luckily, she was much older and a veteran of the medical-establishment wars and there is never a danger of her wishes being ignored.  She's too loud  wink  )  I also had a doctor tell me in all seriousness, when I was young and searching for a diagnosis, that I should have my husband take me out for Mexican food to clear my head!!  Then there was the one whose first question was, "Do you have a sexual disfunction?"
And then, yesterday, when the doc in the ER wanted to send my daughter home - - - I stood up and looked him straight in the eye and said my peace - I'm normally not like that but Do Not Mess With My Kids!!  I know how you feel about it being good for him that you're nowhere near him!
I'm so glad it didn't end there for Alysha.  She's got you on her side and now some doctors, too!  Things should get better now.  Breathe in.....
This too shall pass...
.......fibromyalgia, hearing loss, elevated liver enzymes, skin grafting (back), arthritis, scoliosis, lumbar disc damage, sciatica, IBS, migraines, tachycardia, cancer surgeries (face).......I take Nortriptyline & Clonopin daily, and Darvocet as needed

Oh good golly, Minny! What a terrible doctor. Did he get his degree out of a cracker jacks box, or what? It gets me angry just hearing about him. I'm so glad that her rheumy has taken over and UNDERSTANDS. Thank heavens. She's lucky too that she has a mom who loves her so much. :)

Saying prayers for you and Alysha.

Thank you all for your responses. It's go awesome having a place you can talk, vent or whatever just to get things off your chest. Aly will appreciate all the thoughts and prayers too. I have really tried to get her to this site but so far have not had any luck. It does my heart good to be with people that understand and will encourage you along your path.

Take care and let's have a great day today. Ha... I'm the one that was up and out of bed at 3:30am... You know how that goes.

It is so important to have a doctor that believes that fibromyalgia is an illness.  There still are a lot of doctors out there that don't and, unfortunately, your daughter was seeing one of them.  They don't understand the illness, they don't know what causes it, so I guess it makes some of the doctors feel either frustrated or stupid!  (I know a few doctors that fit the second catagory.  smilewinkgrin )  So, it's far easier to "blame" the patient instead of working to find the answers.  Yes, I do want to throttle a few MD's.  As Jeannie would say, 50% of the doctors graduate in the bottom half of their class and yours may be one of them!
But, I'm happy that your daughter is finally getting the help she needs.  See if she will just check out HealingWell...lurking, we call it.  She can't post unless she joins but she can read all of the posts and learn a lot.  Perhaps if she did this, she would see not all of us are off our rockers and would join!  turn    Mention it to her.  We would love to help her...along with you.

What an awful nurse - and doctor! Normally I would not wish chronic pain on anyone, but anyone who can talk to a patient in that manner, well, all bets are off. They should have to experience it and be treated in the same callous manner. Anyone working in the medical field who lacks compassion and common decency should not be working with human beings.

I hope your daughter never steps foot in that doctor's office again! And I hope her other more competent doctors are able to find something to help her with her pain.
