While growing up parents always have a favorite phrase when your feeling down. What did your parents tell you?

Mine told me "If you don't smile your face will freeze then a bird will come along and doodoo on you".

I remember at a family reunion my mom would not let me go swimming, and I love to be in the water. I was so mad at her, and I was sitting on the swings poutings. My mom told me my face would freeze and a bird would doodoo on me, and I wouldn't smile at all (like I normally would when my parents said it). Anyhow my mom walked off and my dad came along said the same thing. He walks off and I start screaming "MOMMY MOMMY DADDY DADDY" they rush over to see what is wrong and I looked at them with this utter shock on my face because kid you not, a bird actually doodoo on my leg. I looked at my parents and said "the bird doodoo'ed on my leggggggg mommyyy get it off get it off." It was actually funny seeing their shock and my dad decided to pipe up saying "Well see we told you you should of smiled". My mom helped me get the doodoo off my leg. They stopped using the phrase after that, I wonder if they were afraid of more doodoo LOL!

My grandmother had all kinds of phrases, but the one that really sticks with me is when she said "if you don't know what to do, do nothing". And that has worked for me forever.

I am sorry about the doodoo on your leg Smurfy. But that was totally ironic. Wouldn't you say? Brought a chuckle out this morning.

Hugs, Karen

It was totally ironic. But you got to admit, so funny! Well I now find the humour in it. I now tell the darling boy, 6 yrs, it and I include my story of what happened to me. It usually gets a smile and a laugh out of a frown.

That is too cute. I bet it gets him laughing every time.

I am glad that it was your leg and not your head. But, then did you believe after that? Did you keep a smile on your face while at the beach?

Too funny.

LOL! Very funny.
That bird had some good timing, huh? ;)

I have 3 older sisters and a younger brother so there was always something going on and someone getting yelled at for something.

One of my sisters was outside playing in the yard and said a curse word.
My mom hollered at her out the kitchen window and said
"DOn't ever let me hear you say that word again, young lady"

Without missing a beat my sister turned around and yelled back at my mother
"Well then shut the darn window" lol
