Ack. I think I'm flaring. I didn't recognize it for a while, but I noticed I was having symptoms that I thought I'd left behind. Not terrible stuff, but enough. Small migraines lingering. Muscle twitches returned, strange cramps, lightning zaps ... but tonight my ibs went whacko. Ack. Misery. I swear to you, I could do without the IBS. When the ibs flare is big - my body hurts and aches afterwards. And lately too my allergy stuff has been acting up in unusual ways - edges of my eye lids get itchy (only one at a time) and if I rub it - poof, a lump. Dang.

I'm trying to do deep breathing ... let's see if I can find an even keel.

What's funny is that on my good days I think, "maybe I'm a fraud - maybe I don't even have fibro and all that other stuff." But then .. wham. I guess I do.

PS: If my rheumy appointment was tonight, instead of Thursday, I don't know how I'd make it through the appointment.

Thanks KellieJo and EML. It is nice to not feel so all alone when this stuff happens - there's always someone here who understands.

Sometimes I can head off a full blown flare doing deep breathing and meditation.
I also will listen to some calming music and soak in a hot bath. I'm flaring now so
I have been using muscle relaxers and they take the edge of the pain for me.

I hope you feel better. Sending gentle hugs!

Sorry to freak out - but my ibs did something ugly just now. Waiting for the doc on call to call me. Umm... this is gross, but I passed a tiny pinkish blood.

Freaking out. Waiting for doc. Please pray?

The nurse on the phone said she thinks I'll be okay through the night, but to call if anything gets worse. She wants me to see doc tomorrow for sure. I'm not handling this new fear too well.

Having more problems - feel sick drinking water. Nurse on phone said go to ER cuz I might be dehydrating. She thinks they'll release me tonight yet. Please pray again. I'm trying to be brave. I suck at brave.

Princess,

Oh, no! You sound so miserable, and understandably so. Be sure to let us know what happened. Hopefully, it's nothing serious, but it's good that you're going to the ER. That's what ERs are for!!

Hi everyone.

Thanks you for kindly thinking and praying for me. It is 2:37 am here and I just got back. They put two bags of fluids in me. I feel a little more human, but still not great. They suspect it might be some bug - although it could be ibs. They did general blood work and only my potassium was a fraction low (low good is 3.5, I was 3.4), and my white count was just a tad high, but not "high". Will see my g.p. tomorrow. They said that ibs CAN cause mucus and blood, but that they still recommend I consider a g.i. scope. :( Yuck. I just hope there isn't something sinisterly wrong with me aside from ibs and fibro. I hope my doc can sort it all out tomorrow. Going to sit up a little while and test out whether drinking water makes me ill again - and if I'm okay will try to sleep a little. Yucky night. I've never had to go to the ER for myself before.

Thank you for thinking of me and praying.

PS: They offered me drugs to make me feel better, but I really didn't want to do that being so sensitive. They didn't have my charts to "know" me. My allergist warned me about taking meds offered at the ER with all my problems, so I'm not too eager to do so.

PPS: Did I tell you mom was hospitalized two weeks ago with a mystery diarrhea that dehydrated her? They never discovered the bug - but felt it had to be one.

Updating. Didn't sleep much. Woke up now with more problems. Waiting for oncall nurse to call me. My dr. opens at 8:am and am trying to get her to see me right away. Had more blood issues. Pretty scared. Please pray if you can.

Thanks everyone. It is a big comfort knowing you're here.

Doc can't see me until 3:45 today. But, she let me come in for a blood draw now to get that part over with. Just another CBC count. She's booked all day - I was lucky to get an appointment at all. :-(

Amazing what they don't consider urgent. I'm feeling pretty danged urgent right now. Trying to drink water - must attempt to eat something but am REALLY afraid of that.

Not sure if I'll be able to keep appt with rheumy tomorrow or not. :( Or with dentist follow up on Tuesday.

I hate being so fragile.

I have gone through a lot of blood from my bowels over the years.  It's frightening but they will find what is causing it.  It could be from food.  I am allergic to tetracycline and it makes me bleed from the intestines!  I ended up having a scope and, since I was off the tetracycline, my bowel was fine.  (I was 22 years old at the time.  I was taking the tetracycline for a bad cold.)  So, perhaps it's something you are taking or even eating.

Try not to freak out.  That just makes things worse.  You are seeing the doctor today and you saw one last night.  They would not have sent you home last night if you had something really serious.  So, take a deep breath and wait to hear what your doctor has to say.

I hope you feel better soon.

I'm sorry you're having such a horrible time right now.  I will keep you in my thoughts that all turns out okay.  As some of the others have said (eaiser said than done) try not to get too worried, it will just stress you out and make things worse.

Thank you all, so much. I thought I was doing better, but it happened again. Not liking this at all. about 3+ more hours before I can see Dr.

Sherrine - I'll mention that - I was on doxycycline - cousin of tetracycline. Dang.

Really don't want cancer or something. *sigh*

Hi everyone,

I'm back from the doctor's.

A light answer first if you're squeamish - this is SAFE to read:
She thinks I contracted the same bug which hit my mom two weeks ago and hospitalized her. She's going to run tests if she can to make sure it isn't a known scary bug. There is an internal issue, but it isn't too scary and we can fix it - that's the blood problem. Also, my low potassium concerns her, so I've been ordered to bulk up on bananas, potatoes and winter squash and see if I can raise that number.

...........SQUEAMISH? Skip this next paragraph ......
This is for those who are not bothered by medical details:
------------- >>>>>> BEGIN GROSS STUFF HERE

She did a scope of my backside, and found there is a large internal hemorrhoid, and she saw blood from it. I can't tell you what a relief that was. You could hear the relief in her voice, too. You could tell she was afraid it was a big nasty like rectal cancer or something. She said I can breathe easy, but of course I should some day have a colonoscopy. (sp?) She's going to let me try just doing baths - but if they don't help by Friday I have to try medicated stuff. The bug that I caught was what made me sweat like mad when I had what I believed was my ibs attack last night - and what also made me shiver so hard in the ER that my teeth chattered involuntarily until it hurt - and my leg wouldn't stop shaking while I was getting my iv drip - and they covered me in three blankets. She is concerned about some rather nasty bugs - I think one called C-diff - so she's making me provide "samples" over the next couple days as best I can. She won't make me take meds unless we can confirm what it is first. She's taking the potassium more seriously than I would have - I guess she's a good doc. :D Maybe that's why I've been getting cramping lately.

<<<<<------------ END GROSS STUFF

While I don't feel great, I can't tell you how relieved I am at the results so far. I guess maybe it motivates me to finally do a colonoscopy to make sure what they've always called IBS really isn't something else. I'll suck it up and do it - maybe this year yet if insurance will cover it.

THANK YOU ALL for being so amazingly supportive. I really was terrified last night and this morning when the symptoms just kept coming.

Great big hugs and lots of love to you all.
