Hi! I just wanted to introduce myself since I'm new here. My name is Elly and I was very recently (this week) officially diagnosed with FM. I have been dealing with symptoms for around 6 years and finally found a dr. who didn't just blow me off. While I am happy to finally find a label and official dx for what I have been experiencing I do have a lot of questions and am hoping this will be a good place to start to look for some answers and support.

Just a little bit about me. I live in the suburbs of Chicago with my husband, dog, and nearly 2-year old daughter. I work as a Speech-Language Pathologist in a nearby school system, primarily with preschool aged children.

I look forward to meeting and getting to know you all as well as learning more about fm in the process. Thanks in advance!

Hi Elly,

Welcome to the HealingWell fibromyalgia forum.  I am so glad that you have joined us.  I am sorry it took you so long to get a diagnosis, but that does happen with fibromyalgia.  It is such a strange disorder.  More and more doctors though are getting familiar with it.  As time goes by hopefully none will dismiss it as a catch all syndrome.

If you get the chance, check out the thread titled "fibro101".  It is the first thread on the forum.  Our lovely Sherrine put it together for us.  It has loads of information in it.

You will find that many of us have different methods for controling our pain and fatigue.  You will find it interesting as to what works for who.  There are so many ways to go.  I have been fortunate, my doctor's have given me pain medications and something for the fatigue too.  I also take vitamin D3.  You will find that many fibro sufferers are low on this vitamin.  I also use the malic acid/magnesium protocol.  You will read about this in fibro101.  It is very helpful.  It is an inexpensive way to help yourself with fibro.

I hope to get to know you better.  You will find that there are many wonderful members here.  Keep posting and let us know how you are doing.

Hugs, Karen
