So my dr is taking me off my prozac cause she feels it may be helping me to gain the extra weight and putting me on effexor. Any taking it? does it help with fibro? she is giving it to me for anxiety and depression but says that some people get fibro relief from it too.... I dont know, to me its just another pill and I am in a flare up that has not let up for several weeks, thanks to summer I am sure!

Hi there,
I took effexor for about 15 years and it was a really good antidepressant.  I don't know if it helped my fibro because I was on it when I got the fibro.  I am taking pristiq now.  Needed to try something different because I was sick of taking so many capsules.  I took five a day (375mg).  I only take one pristiq.  It works well for me.  But I started taking abilify too and it helps antidepressants work better.  It is a mood stabilizer that works really well too.
I know what you mean about taking so many pills.  I take ten different things.  No fun at all.  Some are three times a day.  But they seem to be working, so I try not to complain.  I hope that you feel better soon.
Hugs, Karen

I took effexor for awhile to and it did help the depression. I just could'nt afford it anymore. I dont remember it helping with my pain though. They have a generic form of it now so its probably more affordable now.
