Yesterday I was in so much pain due to my knee. Ontop of that the fibro. pain is kicking in. My legs were hurting so bad. I have been fairing my left knee and putting more weight on my right leg. Because of that my right calf stays in a cramp. My sweet husband put icey hot on my legs for me last night. I was up on my feet doing housework yesterday so I am not surprised I was in more pain last night. So nervous about surgery.

So sorry about your having to have surgery. I'm sure things will be better for you after that though. I have to have my gallbladder out in Sept. Not so much looking forward to that either.

Sheila, Think of the surgery as...the ends justifies the means. In the end you will
have a positive outcome. Sure, you will go through post surgery recovery, but in the
long run you will not have to deal with that knee pain forever. Trust it will happen!

Sending positive thoughts and prayers...Hugs, Robin

Sheila - There are some websites that have good suggestions on what to do before surgery if you have fibro. It's pretty much the same as what I have to do for my post-polio.

Make sure you get a pain med an hour and a half pre-op. Ask that your arms not be put straight out to your sides. The closer to the body the better. Put in writing that you refuse succinylcholine (paralytic) because it can cause worse post-op pain. There's lots more.

When I had a lumpectomy I didn't know about the pre-op stuff and had a bad flare afterwards. For the lymph node surgery the next week I premedicated myself and had no flare! I've done that for a couple of ops since and no flare!! Patients take stuff all the time. Just admit it so they know. I've never had an anesthesiologist who would cooperate, so I have my own pills ready.

Sheila, please don't stress worrying about the surgery.  It obviously needs to be done to get you back on your feet without being in so much pain.  That will happen soon so keep your eye on the future and how much better you will feel.
Alcie was right about good sites for elective surgery.  Here is one that deals with elective surgery for fibro patients.  Hope this gives you some ideas.  But, keep in mind, you might recover far quicker, too.  I did when I had major surgery.  I had my colon removed and 12 days later I was shopping at the mall for six hours and still had 89 staples in me!  I felt sooo much better than I did before the surgery.  I'll be praying that will happen for you.  Remember, attitude plays a big part in healthcare.

Thanks everyone. Sherrine the website helped, thanks. Today has been a better day. I am gonna try and stay positive. I just worry about how I am gonna take care of my girls and two dogs after surgery but I will do the best I can.

I go see the surgeon Tuesday to set up surgery.
