WHY do we keep these creatures around?? hmm? They stink like no other stink and you can't get rid of it. I've used Dawn because that's what they use on the wild life during Oil Leaks. And Vinegar.. Dog is fine now but that stink is everywhere! She got it right in the nose.. Came in frothing and stinking.. The male who is the nosy one didn't get it this time.. Both are epileptic and I'm just waiting for a seizure now. She keeps rubbing her nose on a blanket I threw down for her. bleh.. and a window by my bedroom so I get to smell it all flipping night. ;(

It's horrible...I know!  Our dog got sprayed in the mouth two years ago(at 1:00 in the morning) and when he heard the bath water running he raced all through the house, wiping his face on everything in his path...comforter, couch cushions, the rug.  It took months for the stench to go away no matter what I used to clean.  I finally found a solution in Pet Smart to spray on the carpeting and other things I couldn't toss in the washer but it was expensive and I had to use bottles of it.  I swear I can still smell it in the van sometimes.  EEWWW.  This was the third time he had been sprayed and you think he would have learned a lesson. (the other two times was early evening and we could see to scrub him down outside).

My girl friend and I were just talking about this very subject.  She hung her comforter outside till the stink went away but it took a good while.

There is a recipe that calls for Dawn, baking soda and I think vinegar.  They say it works a little better than some of the other things.  I will not comment on my dogs and skunks because if I do say that I have never dealt with that it will happen tonight nono   I did smell a skunk 2 weeks ago for the first time in the 8 years since we lived here.

Good luck getting that smell out

I feel so bad for your dog!  That smell is up their nose and could be irritating the nasal lining.  I know I'd have the dog checked out since he got it right in the nose.

I've heard tomato juice takes the smell of skunk out.  Never had to try it, thank goodness.  Hope you can get the smell out, soon.  Bath and Body Works have some concentrated bathroom spray that comes in a tiny spray bottle but it really works great!  It is made by The White Barn Candle Company and my favorite scent is Cotton Blossom.  Just an idea.

Well I have to say that most of the smell is gone just using Dawn and boiling Vinegar. Now only the bathroom smells and I have washed the tub/shower and everything else down in there. Thinking the walls and vent is where the smell might be coming from.. sooooo.. Will take a shower and then burn an incense after people with nose problems go out for the day or a few hours. :) I AM Thankful they aren't hairy dogs because I've been through this with Shepards and Labs. :)

Years ago my german shepherd and golden both got sprayed. I'm sure the shepherd was the instigator, the golden was an innocent by stander. At the time I was taking care of my handicapped mom. I had to bundle her up, (it was cold out), load her and the 2 stinky dogs into MY CAR smhair and drive with the windows down to the groomer. My poor mom. She remembered that trip for a long, long time.

Silly, glad you were able to work on the "stink".

Had to air that purse out for a few days.. Sent coats etc to cleaners oy.. I was embarrassed!!

I think you can google the recipe...it is baking soda, hydrogen peroxide and a dab of Dawn liquid and it works, but...you really have to get it all. My dogs (2) got it , one on furry part of her face and neck and the other right in his mouth, so there wasn't much I could, or would do, except water. Any time I kissed him for SIX months, I could smell that God awful smell. It was a VERY hot and humid July night and I let them out just before going to bed, had the a/c on, so didn't small a thing, until they came back in the house...they didn't even bark at the darn animal and once they came in, OH MY GOD...it took our breath away. we had an open bag of chips on the table. I clipped it and put it away. two days later, I took it out and opened it and the smell came out! unbelievable! Oh and tomato juice? Does NOT work, at least when I used it, it didnt, but that recipe did work, but you really have to get it on every bit of the stink to get it out...
Nature's Miracle has a product for skunk smell remover that I used for the blankets and towels and I think it worked pretty well...from that point on, after dark, I go out first with a flash light before the boys go out...I never want to go through that again...

O Robin, you have no idea! You think the skunk stinks, you cannot imagine how bad it is when it is in your house! Actually, it was SOOOO strong that we thought it smelled like CHICKEN...I know that sounds hilarious....it just seemed to get into everything...kind of like a horror story!
