Sounds like fibro to me Kat. I wouldn't worry too much, but if you are, you can always get a second opinion. I hope that you find out what is going on.

Kat,

While the chances are high that you do have fibro, there are more tests that need to be done to rule out other very similar illnesses. He should have done those for you. Don't panic though - you'll get this sorted out.

Check out this topic pinned to the top of the fibro forum - it is called Fibro 101.

I agree it is probably Fibro and the 101 section is a great post for lots of information. There is no way a doc does everything but should have sent you for blood work in the very least Sorry your going through this and more so when you see other family members with it because you always hope it stops at them!!

Hi Kitty and welcome to our fibro family. We have a great group here and we are always willing to try and help or relate to what you are going through. I do agree that it sounds alot like fibro but like princess said there are other things out there that should be ruled out first before they diagnose it. Is there any way you could see a rheumatologist in order to rule out things that might be treatable. Hope you get this resolved fast.

Hi kitty, welcome to the family! I agree with my fibro family about ruling out the
differant possibilities through bloodwork. That should always be done when looking
for a dx.

Heat helps with the pain...long soaks in the tub, hot showers and using bedbuddies,
the microwaveable rice heating pads. Do make sure you are getting some
exercise or you will hurt all the more.

I'm glad you have joined us. ..lots of caring, supportive people here who really
understand. Keep us posted!

Hi, Kittybear, and welcome!  I'm so glad you found us and joined in!  Well, it sounds like fibro but it also sounds like a few other illness, too.  You see, many of our symptoms are like other illnesses.  That's why it's important to get the other illnesses ruled out first before a diagnosis of fibro is given.  The other illnesses can be treated.  I see Chicken Princess mentioned Fibro 101.  There is a link there called What Else Could It Be.  Check that  out and you will see what I mean.  But most likely you have fibro because there is a family history of it.

Be sure to keep moving with fibro.  If you sit or lay too much you will be stiff as a board and in more pain.  There are some gentle exercises on Fibro 101 that help and you should be doing gentle exercise every day.  I walk and swim as my exercise.  I walk my dog first thing in the morning.  I don't feel like doing that but I always feel better by the time I get home and have more energy, too.  I walk her at least a  mile a day.

Moist heat helps a lot.  Many have Bed Buddies.  You can find these at Walgreen's and other places or you can make your own by taking a tube sock, filling it 2/3's full of raw long grain rice, and tying a knot at the end.  Pop it in the microwave and it gives off moist heat!

There are some vitamins and supplements that I and others on this forum use that help with pain and fatigue.  There are links to them in Fibro 101.

I'm happy you are here!  Don't hesitate to ask questions because we are here to help you.  Hope to hear more from  you soon.

Kittybear1,

Maybe eventually you could have blood work done to rule out other things but yes it does sound like fibro. You mentioned it is worse in the arms - mine has always been the same. I thnk b/c we use our upper bodies, esp the arms and hands so much it can be really irritating.

The lat few days have been really rough on me. The pain in my arms is really bad, and my muscles they just feel like jelly, i guess that it is the best way that i can describe it. They just feel weird and then the achey pain. I also feel like i am in a complete fog a lot of the time it is a odd sensation that is also hard to describe. I think that i am going to call the doctor in the morning and just see if he will do the blood work to rule out other things, it is a good idea. And I can see a rheumatologist but it takes forever to get an appointment with one and the nearest one is 40 min away, and I do not drive so my hubby would have to get out of work. But it might be worth it, the first step i guess is getting some more blood work done to make sure that I know what I am dealing with. Thank you so much to everyone on here, you have all made me feel so much better. I spent saturday crying thinking that I was just dying! I am so grateful to all of you for respoding and you have made me feel so much better. It is alot to deal with my body falling aprt and I am a mother of two.

Kat,

Welcome to the forum. I feel for you - it's so hard to feel like that, especially as a young mother. It seems impossible that it's not something really deadly! I went through that, too.

If it is fibro, at least you know it's not dangerous. As my doctor says, "You'll probably live to 100 with all your aches and pains. You're healthy. You just have a bunch of stuff that makes you miserable." I know he believes in fibro, one, because he told me about it to begin with, and two, he says fibro patients rate their pain higher than people with rheumatoid arthritis..."so we need to take you people seriously."
