Yet again this weekend, I drug out my 17 year old baby monitor to place in my daughter's room. She had a really high fever and some other nasty symptoms (turned out to be just a virus), and I put the monitor in her upstairs room so I could hear her during the night.

We have used this monitor off and on for 17 years whenever someone has had surgery, is bedridden, seriously ill, etc. It has been useful for so much more than just monitoring a baby. I had no idea how much we would use it.

So, if you are a parent or grandparent, you might want to consider hanging onto your monitor, or if you will be caring for someone who is ill or has had surgery, you might consider one. Some of them are pretty inexpensive and can be found at thrift stores or baby consignment shops.

I know it sounds kind of weird, but it has helped our family a lot, and I wanted to share. Beats the heck out of a bell or yelling from room to room. smilewinkgrin

Austen, what a great post! I too have used one. My mom, who has Alzheimer's, lived with me for a year and during that time, I kept one in her room at night, even though her bedroom was only two rooms away from mine, she wanted her door closed, so it was peace of mind for me.

What a great idea. I was just thinking how many steps this would save a fibro from walking.
And on the eighth day God created Golden Retrievers.

I asked my stepdaughter to borrow hers 6 years ago when my dog was going to have pups.  She said yes but never showed up with it.............not surprising.  Actually her had a tv screen to see what's going on.  I figured that would work out great.
She should have let me use it and she would still have it, she tossed it like she does everything.
That is a great tip!!
