rolleyes  This is embarrassing, but I smell like vinegar when I sweat (especially under my breasts). Has anyone heard of this or know why and/or what I can do about it?

Hi...I know that certain medications can cause strange odors when we sweat...ammomia, garlicy, vinegar etc.  My father was on a drug combo for RA and his sweat smelled like vinegar...not only that... left orange, rusty looking rings on his clothing. (armpit and collar area)

Don't know if this is a possibility for you but thought I would mention it.

Thanks Donna - I didn't even think about it being from medications.

There are times that I have B.O. which I never can remember having. Heck, I didn't use deoderant until about 7 years ago. And yes the smell is a mixture of onions, garlic and vinegary. Don't know exactly why.

Let your doctor know about this next time you see them.  It could be medications or even something like diabetes.

I use an antibacterial soap when I shower...Dial.  I rarely have a problem but I do have an area with a surgical scar so deep that the skin touches and that is a prime candidate for perspiration, excess moisture,  and bacterial growth.  If I ignore it, that area can produce a pungent odor.  So, in that area, I apply a thin coat of Desitin...yep, diaper cream...and it works!

Hi Ema,
Both my son and I have this. Neither of us do much in the way of dr drugs, where I do herbals, he doesn't use much
of anything. We have different water systems, he uses dial liquid and I use Johnson's baby soap. We also live in
different towns and work different jobs; he's a taxi driver and I work in a dishroom of a nursing home. He eats fruits
and veges and I don't, he does soda and I do water. Still the slight smell is there on both of us but only if you
put your nose to the skin.

Thank you for all the responses. I will tell my doc about it the next time I see him, I will try a different soap, and I will pray for it to go away. yeah

You need to have your blood checked to see what your chlorine levels are. You are sweating prochloric acid (sp?), so you smell like vinegar. If you are also overweight this is a sign that you have too much chlorine in the body as the body desperately tries to keep the chlorine from damaging your internal organs by storing it in fat away from the organs. You would have found it difficult to lose weight if this is the case. If you have IBS you might be dumping your natural sodium bicarbonate that binds to the HCl, so then you would have too much Cl. If this is the case also you will notice thicker than normal mucus secretions. Get your blood checked immediately. I had this exact problem and I wound up VERY ILL in hospital because of it. They put me on artificial sodium bicarb and I no longer smell like vinegar and the weight is just melting off me. Good luck. Its not just the food...you have an imbalance in your blood most likely.....

yes - i get this. had it before fibro, in fact its been a life long problem. It goes in waves, the fact I had it before tells me mine isn't from meds...I attribute it to hormones. The more im piecing together bits of my illness, the more its telling me its hormone problem.
my thyroid is borderline overactive, I have low adrenals and a cyst on my pineal gland. Im mentioning all this to doc...could this apply to you?
Diagnosed with Fibromyalgia in March and now looking for friends to help me in my fibro journey :o)
