Anyone try Glucosamine for their fibromyalgia?

The reason I ask if because I've been a long time sufferer of Fibromyalgia for more than a decade (without any meds, I can tell you it sucks big time!).

And I stumbled twice now, upon an accidental finding: whenever I have live lobster steamed - it enabled me a PAIN FREE night and I feel great!

For me it's been nothing short of miraculous! I've never had a pain free night or day.

After much research, and the grateful help of some fellow posters here, seems the lobster shells contain high amounts of glucosamine, which apparently and IMO, when you steam the lobster (must be live, and kicking one showing some spunk , LOL), it enables the glucosamine from the shells to get absorbed into the lobster meat, and thereby you get the glucosamine from the lobster.

Now if I could only figure out how much Glucosamine is contained in a 1 1/2 lb of lobster? haha

I have not yet tried supplementation with glucosamine, but will have to research that. I will need to find a safe source of it, as I don't want to upset my Ulcerative Colitis remission with the wrong type.

So, here's my question: Are any of you on glucosamine supplementation? If so, how much? And what have your results been?

I take 1,500 mg of glucosamine sulfate a day...500 mg every eight hours.  It is supposed to help with joint pain but I really don't notice a difference in my pain.  I'm taking it because I'm being told I also have arthritis and glucosamine could help.

I didn't know you had fibro too InSo! I've had mine for years but just diagnosed last year after fighting with doctors. They insisted I had it and I insisted I didn't! lol

I tried Glucosamine a few years ago to help with my joint pain and while I did notice an improvement of my overall joint and body pain, it affected my Uc. I don't know if I had the wrong type or not. But perhaps you should also ask this on the Uc forum to see if anyone else on there can give you more information (someone that has Uc and can give you better advice on the right brand).

Thanks Sherrine. I appreciate your input.

Would you consider trying lobster to see if you have the same result?

Hi Sherry, yes I've been a long time sufferer - probably more than a decade - and I've gone un-diagnosed (and un-treated)  for so long, until finally and recently a doctor told me "well, you've got fibromyalgia". I did some research after that, and all my symptoms matched!

Good idea about asking on the UC board.

In the meatime, I'll heading back to the market in a few days for my lobster .... yeah

Robin,

Which type of  glucosamine did you try, do you remember?
Did it upset your stomach at all?

I believe I was using the Nature Made glucosamine, and tried another brand from a health store....I ended up burping up a fish taste during the day, not very pleasant. Never noticed an improvement...then I started seeing a doc for joint pain and was put on prescription NSAIDS...In the past I took Celebex and than Mobic (Meloxicam) for arthritis pain....now I'm back on an immunosupressant MTX that helps with the inflammation of MCTD

For fibro relief I use a muscle relaxer Flexeril and Savella.

Finding relief is such an individual thing...we are all so differant.

Good luck to you!

Crazy, Do you have any side effects from the flexeril?? I ended up with my hair falling out. I take
skelaxin now (plant based) and with 1/2 of an 800 pill I get relief. I'm going to try to get back on the
True Calm by NOW products to help with the fibro issues. I found I'm low in amino acids so I'm taking
beta alanine (softgels) and they help with the muscle weakness. Just got back on them so it'll take a
few weeks to get back in the system. Glucomosine with MSM or SAM-E works good for the joints. I just
also got back on Bio-Sil to help rebuild the callogen in my joints as I'm starting to pop and crunch again.
