Hey,

I met my rheumatologist today and she told me to take 3 capsules of evening primrose oil everyday for 2-3 weeks see how it goes.

What's your opinion about this?

I knew evening primrose oil as a skin care product, not something you eat and certainly not something that can help with FM.

Backstory: My rheumatologist is happy and think that I'm doing the right choice to work on my FM the natural way. Improve my diet, lose weight, workout regularly and increase my omega 3 and 6 to help with the pain.
No meds unless I really need it.

Evening Primrose Oil has been called the most sensational preventive discovery since vitamin C. It contains the pain relieving compound phenylalanine and is increasingly being used to treat chronic headaches. It is currently being studied all over the world as a treatment for aging problems, alcoholism, acne, heart disease, hyperactivity in children, symptoms of menopause, multiple sclerosis, weight control, obesity, PMS and schizophrenia. It has so many preventive and therapeutic qualities that it has become a standard part of recommendations of many herbalist for maintaining youth and preventing disease

I do take different oils, and they help.  haven't heard of the benefits of this one, but I might add it to my list to try.

Anna,

Great! I don't really have an opinion about this, (don't know anything) but apparently it can't hurt, and it might be just the ticket for you. I hope so.

Let us know, ok?

And good for you for doing the hard stuff!

May I ask what different oils you take?

I'd love to research them and see if they can help with my symptoms.

Thank you :)

peppermint is one I use all the time, I put a couple drops in my water to help sooth any tummy problems, I put a drop on my temples and back of neck if I have a headache, and yes it helps with all over pain - but I don't use full strength when I put it on my back or legs. Just remember different companies have different grades of oil, so not all are meant for dietery, or give you much relief.

I also use sandalwood, valerian, marjoram, and basil for sleeping and relaxing, lavender and roman chamomile work well too- I will put them on the bottom of my feet.

cinnamon, clove and wintergreen are good if you have inflammation

Council lady, where do you purchase all these oils?

How did you become so knowledgeable about them?

I use young living essential oils, there are some great sites that give the uses for each oil, I also use blends from them for alot of things. I diffuse oils too, especially when I am getting a cold.

my favorite site (not mine, ) is: http://www.experience-essential-oils.com/ for information. for example on Marjoram oil:

What are the Plant Properties? Antispasmodic, antibacterial, anti-infectious, anti-fungal, antiseptic, diuretic, digestive stimulant, arterial vasodilator, diuretic, anti-sexual, expectorant, mucolytic, sedative, tonic, promotes peristalsis.

What are the Documented Benefits of Marjoram and Uses? Arthritis, asthma, blood pressure (regulates), bronchitis, circulatory disorders, colic, cramps, constipation, insomnia, migraines, menopausal problems, rheumatism, reduce water retention, whooping cough, muscular cramps and spasms, aches and pains, sprains.

I buy mine direct from the company

Hi Council Lady,

I was wondering if you've heard of Bach Flower Essence? I guess it's combined oils to help with various emotional ailments.
Fibromyalgia, CFS, multiple chemical sensivity, herniated disks, spinal stenosis, osteoarthritis, ADD, sjorgens, sleep apnea, asthma, headaches. The only medication I take is ibuprofen at night to sleep along with my supplements for sleeping. I am on a regiment of different supplements, I eat very nutritiously, and ever since my injury years ago I have been doing prescribed stretches x2 daily.

sorry almost medfree,

I haven't. I know my sister-in-law works with autisic children and uses the oils to calm them just by diffusing or having them smell the bottle.

I take Udo's choice oils. I buy the biggest bottle of the oil I can find and take two tablespoons a day. It states one tablespoon per 50 lbs, but if I take more I am wired. I usually buy the 369 with dha blend. ( not pills actual oil in a glass bottle) It helps tremendously with fatigue, pain, weight loss, and makes my skin flawless.

I will caution that at first the oil is downright yucky. After a while, you get accustomed to it. Some people put it in smoothies. I get mine online at Iherb. For me personally, it's a must in my aresenal. It does contain evening primrose oil.

Love it!
