Hello! A couple weeks ago I was having lots of stomach problems.I do have IBS but this was different. So my doc sent me for X-rays and an ultrasound. In the ultrasound they found a gallstone and I have fat in my liver. The fatty liver is from being overweight not alcohol related since I don't drink! (somedays I feel like I should start! Lol)

Anyways I'm taking Cymbalta and was reading how you shouldn't take it if you have liver problems. Has anyone else had this or know more about it? The pharmacist looked it up and said that there's so much info on it and that it looks like its only in the earlier stages of treatment that it can effect your liver. She said to talk to my doctor which I'm going to do later today.

I would like to try another med since the cymbalta isnt helping with the pain that much and if I don't take it with food I get really bad stomach pains. I'm not sure what other meds are out there..I tried lyrica and it made me worse. I also get hives on my face that are really itchy and then disappear after about an hour and I think it's from the cymbalta too. Any suggestions on medications?

Thanks so much!

Hi DW,
Thank you for your reply :) I'm not sure if I'm supposed to avoid everything liver challenging, that's what I will find out today. My doctor just told me to lose weight.
I would love to not have to go on medication and use natural ways of healing. I will look more into this as well.
Thanks again.

My mom's new dr. (he is a big gi) stopped her cymbalta due to the liver issue; however he failed to give her a replacement. She is bairly able to get out of bed most days. She is going in to her rheumy for a new plan. I just started my first, Lyrica, been a couple weeks now. Thing is, my flair was ending 2 days before ins. approved my script. And today is not as good as yesterday ... HAving this is definitely a journey.

If the cymbalta isnt seemig to working, might be time for plan B. Wish you well on your journey.

I can't help with meds, just want to say I'm sorry that happened and Very glad you went to the doctor about it. So for our people to understand better --do you know---are you supposed to avoid everything liver challenging like a liver impaired patient would do? Or are you not sure, and going to find out today?

And ---WARNING --This is not advice: because I know nothing about your case, and admittedly very little about the liver....Merely a comment that.I know someone who really helps his liver on some herbals, like milk thistle, and other things... This person has avoided hep C medical treatment for maybe 12 years, after a viral count that was sky high when first DX. he does get blood work and a periodic biopsy to play it safe. Sooo that's just an aside, just in case you've never heard of the herbals and mushrooms for liver and immune support.
