Hi all -

I'm worried about Sherrine - and anyone else who's in the path of this monster storm. I noticed she hasn't written in a couple of days...probably had to evacuate!

Sending all my good thoughts and wishes down south (also to South Texas, of course.) Take care, whoever you are!!

It's crazy what's going on with the weather, isn't it?! And now ANOTHER hurricane coming up behind?

Thanks, guys! I'm fine...just busy. I got all the food supplies and water on Labor Day. My daughter is with me and we bought tarps in case there are problems with the roof, I have a generator and gas cans filled with gas and our cars are filled too. We did that ahead of time also. You can't wait until the last minute to do things.

One of our friends who works with my daughter will be staying at my house too. He's very strong and knows how to do everything. We will probably play card games and watch TV if we don't lose power.

I have a huge canister of propane just in case there would be a long power outage and a propane grill and a freezer full of food. Party time!

My home is secure, hurricane straps on the roof, special film on the windows that withstands 155 mile and hour wind. And I do have flood insurance even though I'm not in a flood zone. If it can happen, it will.

As you can see...my perfectionism is showing through. 😂 I do take these storms seriously but I have done all I can do. The highways will be a parking lot...especially if they can't get more fuel to the gas stations. The stations around me were out of gas yesterday. So it's best for me to stay in my home. I'm never evacuated where I live.

In my area, it looks like we will end up with a catagory 1 hurricane if the path remains as it was is. But we are four days from being hit and a lot can happen. The work is done so I will just keep my positive outlook and sit back and watch the storm. They really are amazing! I do appreciate your thoughts and prayers. You are all so wonderful!

Sherrine: You sound very well prepared! Sending prayers and good wishes for everyone affected by this storm, and for those who battled Harvey. God bless!

Sherrine, I'm so glad, too, that you have done everything you can do (not surprisingly! turn ) and that you'll be with your daughter and a man who's good in an emergency.

I can't even imagine what a hurricane must be like. TV or no, it's just one of those things you'd have to experience. I'll bet they are amazing...all that power!

Meanwhile, here in Colorado the skies have been hazy for days, the sunsets neon orange, and our eyes are always burning...from the fires in Wyoming and even several states away. I wish we could scoop up some of that excess water the South has been battling and pour it over us!!

Ah, me.

Best of luck. Will be thinking of you for sure.

Thank you, Rockon, Luvs and Debbie. The storm shouldn't be that bad in my area of the state. South Florida will get the brunt of the storm. Those people should have left several days ago. As of right now, the storm will be in my area between Sunday afternoon through Monday. The highest winds we should get will be around 2:30 AM and will be around 65-75 mph. That's not too bad. The rain will be heavy but thank God I'm not In a flood zone. When you enter my development, you have to drive uphill for one mile to reach my house. So I'm not too concerned about flooding.

I do worry about other people though. I feel so badly for those folks in Texas and Louisiana and there will be folks in a mess here too. I'm on the left side of the storm so the winds aren't as high but those on the east side the winds will be worse and right now the storm keeps moving more west.

Debbie, if you aren't afraid and are wel-prepared, hurricanes can be neat! I was in my first hurricane when I was five years old on Long Island. The winds are enormous, the trees bending like you see on the news and, if the eye passes over you, it's amazing. All of a sudden the sun is shining and it's beautiful out! It's like when the sun come out after a bad storm...everything bright and fresh. That's when I take my dog out. 😂 Then the second half of the storm comes and the trees are bending in the opposite direction. I do like storms and find them beautiful...most of the time.

Sherrine, I have been thinking about you since this storm decided to visit the Sunshine State. I know you are on top of all the prep work. That's just who you are. 😀 I'm glad you and your DD wil be together. It was good of you to open your home to your friend.

Next month, it will be 5 yrs since 'Sandy' decimated our area. They are still rebuilding, some areas are finally getting roads put back in. It was a beast!! Irma appears to be a nasty beast, also.

I hope when all is said and done, this will not be as horrific as they are saying. You and yours will remain in my prayers, as always.

Debbie, so good to see you! I have often thought, 'If only that rain could be channeled where it could be of the most use'. They should make up water pipelines, like they have for gas. Share the wealth, so to speak.

Prayers for all of Brothers and Sisters in the midst of these terrible storms.

Sherrine, pls let us know as soon as you can that you are ok.

Love & prayers! God bless. Alice.

Hi guys,

Glad you could check in sherrine..we had friends evacuate from palm city yesterday, but with it moving west, they may have been ok , but they sit low on a canal , with their boat right behind the house..

Our youngest was heading to a resort on ft meyers beach..was suppose to go yesterday for 10 days..so of course that trip was cancelled.
She was so stressed and needing sunshine, so someone helped her get a special package at a spa resort in scottsdale Az..she has a lower level of fibro than i do.. but she gets very needy about getting into the sun..its a stress reliever for her...she and hubby will relax ..so they found a way to get away from everything after all..

We will be thinking about you..sounds like you will do fine..

Our friends eneded up at a friends place in orlando..so prob ok there..

Thank you Alice and LJM. I'm all set. We just got all my patio furniture in the living room and doors sandbagged so I'm set. It looks like the storm will go directly over us now but they are saying we will have 70-95 mph sustained winds with higher gusts and 6-12 inches of rain. Flooding will be a problem so, LJM, its great that your friends left. Yes, they still would have had to leave because of storm surge I think.

We have not been evacuated. They are evacuating people in low levels, people in manufactured homes, and seniors and people who need help and medical care. They say that if you haven't been told to evacuate then stay where you are. I'm safer in my home than my car. Besides, I've built a fortress! 😂

LJM, I'm glad your daughter found a nice place to catch some rays. She wouldn't have gotten them here this weekend!

Alice, I know what you went through and it was really horrible. But I think with each major storm, we get better at handling them. They seem right on the ball with this storm. Plus, I think Florida is more prepared for hurricanes than the north east coast because we get far more of them here. At least I hope so.

I had my hot tea this morning in my favorite mug. One side says, "Cast all your anxiety on Him because He cares for you. 1 Peter 5:7". And the other side says, "Good morning! This is God. I will be handling all your problems today. I will not need your help~so, have a good day! I love you!" 😊 I believe that wholeheartedly and will be having my tea in this mug until the storm passes.

Sherrine: Are you without power? When I lived in New Jersey in an area at risk for hurricanes, people used to have a "Hurricane Party" while waiting out the storm. Don't hear about those any more.

Do you know anything about The Villages? How did they fare? Usually spend time there in the summer at relatives.

Thank you, Alice! It's good to be back. Always.

Maybe life will slow down for awhile and let me spend more time here.

Sherrine, are you doing ok?

hi, Guys! I'm fine. I have no power but my daughter's home does so I'm at her house. I had no Internet, WiFi, or phone service either. That's why you haven't heard from me.

I had some smal limbs all over the yard and had a panel of my pool screening blown out. Now the bottom of my pool is filled with leaves and I have to figure out how to get rid of them. I think it's too much for my pool sweep.

We just got back from my house. I had a 20 cubic foot freezer LOADED with food! It stayed frozen for two days so we had a couple of friends who have power that had room for my food in their freezers. I'm so thankful for this!

There is flooding. We are about one mile from the Alafia River and it's overflowing. Flood stage is 13 feet and last I heard, it was over 22 feet. It's supposed to crest tonight. I hope so. There are alligators in that water. 😳 Street lights aren't working and it's amazing seeing all the water and ponds overflowing. I have several ponds in my development but we will be fine.

I did pack a bag and might be at my daughter's for another day or two. They should have the power on by then. They are working frantically to get it on for everyone. It does look like most people were safe. We still don't have cable...even at my daughter's home, so I'm not up to date on the news. Boy, you don't realize how much you use electricity in your life until you don't t have it.

Thanks for all your thoughts and prayers. I know there are others on the forum from Florida. I hope they weathered the storm in good shape too.

Glad to hear everyone made it thru the storm ok! We did as well. Just some shingles and soffit that we lost and some yard clean up. We are just outside of the Orlando area. It was pretty intense for a little bit, but overall not too bad. We lost power for about 12 hours. They turned it back on about an hour after we got the generator set up and the portable A/C plugged in!

We were here thru the 3 hurricanes in 2004 and it didn't feel quite as intense as Charlie was but maybe that was because our babies were little at the time.

I work in Tampa and driving in this morning was interesting! It was dark so I couldn't see a lot, but on the drive home I should be able to get a good look at everything.

Sherrine, so glad to hear you and your DD are doing well. How lucky that you had some friends w space in their freezers to hold your food! I was watching the news the other day as the 'eye' was passing over and the news crews were talking about how so many ppl ran out to walk their dogs. They said the dogs (and their ppl) had been cooped up for hrs, so now was the safe time to go outside. My brother and several of my friends live in FL, all have 'puppies', so I know their were many, many happy 'puppies' and parents during that 'eye'. Lol

Sorry for the damage your home received, but so glad it wasn't worse! During Harvey, they were showing so many gators in homes. So creeped out!! Hope you only see them on the news. ;)

Misty, so glad you and your family came thru safely, as well. Hope your ride home tonight is 'uneventful'. I don't believe we have spoken before, so welcome to the 'family'.

God bless. Alice.

Yes. I got back to my house Friday afternoon after moving a ton of frozen foods back to my freezer. It was being stored in three different freezers in my daughter s neighborhood. I'm so thankful these friends could help me.

I just got ice back in my house! My ice maker doesn't work and none of the stores had ice until today. I grabbed three bags and made a huge glass of ice water. That's what I drink. I did have ice at my daughter's home but the last couple of days I dint have any. We are just too spoiled. LOL.

Now there is Hurricane Maria churning out in the Atlantic and going on a similar path as Irma! But I think the enormous high in the Atlantic is gone so hopefully this will veer north like Jose and go out to sea. Trust me....I'm watching this closely!
