Just wanted to apologize for not participating lately.  I have been a very busy bee!

First of all, I am assisting someone in Canada in gathering material for a book on a singer/songwriter I knew intimately in the 60s.  I actually have said material (articles, CDs of music, etc.), but have been making tapes and copies.  Then he asked for a bio.  I'm up to Page 11, 1997--so finally ALMOST done with that.  Whew!  Then I have to try to get all this mailed out to him later this week.

Aside from that, I've been wanting to return to NYC, where I grew up and went to school, for a very long time.  I left there in '76 when I was 33, and have never been back.  My ex-b.f. is also from NY, but he didn't care if he ever went back.  To go by myself...well, I was always a little nervous about doing that...but mainly it was cost and timing and then my health.  Well, now that my health is better and I'm nearly recovered from the hernia surgery, and have more free time since I'm retired--I'm going!  Alone.  In mid-April.  It will be my 65th b.d. present to myself.  :-)   My favorite entertainer, Clay Aiken, is starring in Spamalot on Broadway and I want to see him.  He's getting raves.  However, as I said, I've wanted to go back for a long while and decided April will be the right time.  I'm excited and just a little nervous!  I have been sooo busy online trying to set this up.  I have my theater ticket--Left Orch. Row A, Seat 1 off the aisle!  I also have made reservations at a lovely guest house in Greenwich Village, where I had 4 different apts., so the Village is like my 2nd home.  I think I will feel more comfortable there than in the theater district.  It's costing a small fortune for my 4-night stay, but the mid-town hotels are even more expensive.  I have a CD (the money kind) that matures in April, so that will pay for the lodging and ticket.  Now I have to find good plane fare.  I've looked some online, but think I will call a travel agent this week to see if there are any specials available for the time I'm going.

I feel like I've been in a rut for a long time and am breaking out!  It's like a rebirth.  yeah

I do have to have scans and hepatologist/oncologist/surgeon/primary care/gynecology visits next month, so please pray that I get a clean bill of health.  I'm particularly concerned about the recurrence of cancer, but at the same time I feel well and have great hope that I'll be cancer-free when scanned.

I care about all of you and will try to come in to read your posts, even if I don't have a chance to post.

Hugs to all,
Connie

Oh Connie it is so great that you're going back to NYC. Don't feel bad at all about not posting so much. We understand.
I still live in the same city that I grew up in. I really don't want to leave it. Don't mind visiting other places but I hope I never move out of my home town.
I love Clay Aiken also. And such a great seat. I'm jealous....NOT.....I am very happy for you. I know that you will have a wonderful time.
My thoughts and prayers will be with you that your doctor appointments come and go without a hitch.
yeah yeah yeah

Thanks, PinkGrandma!  As much as I'd like to move back to NYC, that's impossible.  First of all, the rents are too high.  Secondly, I feel I need to stay here in Jacksonville with Mayo 5 min. from me.  Thirdly, my daughter and granddaughters are here.  But I am really happy to be going back for a visit!  :-)

Hugs,

Connie

Connie

Wow what an exciting time for you. Getting to participate in a book, going back to NYC, and getting to see one of your favorite preformers, I am thrilled for you. Your seats for the play sound wonderful and I hope and pray for you that this trip gives back some of the life that you have put on hold during your illness. You certainly deserve that opportunity.

I pray that your doctors appointment gives you great news, if you get a chance let us know how it goes.

Good Luck on all your renewed passions.

Lucy

Connie  I think its so wonderful you get to have some fun and do some of the things you love.  I love New York.  Never lived there (who could afford that) but have been a few time on Girlfriend trips!!!  I could just sit and watch the people.  I love them.  Have a big cup of Starbucks and enjoy Clay.  I love him.

JoAnn, NYC didn't used to have such high rents.  At one time--1961, when I married for the first time--we had a rent controlled one-bedroom apt. in the West Village.  It was $44 a month!  There are very few rent controlled apts. left, though, and they are being passed down in families.  All the brownstones that used to have cheap rents have either been torn down or renovated.  When I left NYC in '76, rents were just starting to rise with the renovations.  I note that the subway and bus are now $2.00.  I think they were .75 when I left there.  Not sure about prices on food and other things, but I'm sure they are higher than here in FL.  My proposed trip is going to cost me more than I should be spending, that's for sure.  However, I'm hoping it will be worth it!  :-)

June, thank you!  I'm as excited as a teenager, that's for sure!  Once in awhile, I get a little pang of guilt about the money I'll be spending.  I am always EXTREMELY practical, especially regarding money.  I REALLY need a new bed.  Mine is 17 yrs. old and the warranty was for 15 yrs.  I watch TV and read in bed, as well as sleep, so it's definitely sagging.  However, I just keeping turning the mattress and putting off purchasing a new one.  Maybe I'd better start buying lottery tickets!  LOL!

I just have a gut feeling that this may be the last and only time I will be able to make such a trip--and the only time that Clay will be in Spamalot--so I want to have those memories.

Hugs,

Connie

Connie, I know what you mean about feeling guilty about spending the money. I am that way also when it comes to things for myself. I say-Go for it! You deserve it. I hope you have lots of fun.

Hi Connie and all other friends at HealingWEll,
I have also been MIA for a while, though my reasons are not as exciting as yours Connie.  Enjoy your trip in April.  You sound so positive that I'm sure your tests will be what you hope for.  You deserve this "Rebirth" after all you have suffered.
What's been happening since my last post!
  • My AIH remains under control.
  • Meds remain the same - wish the heptologist would lower just a bit
  • Weight gain (caused by too much food and good living - not health issues)
  • Depression seems to be a thing of the past. Yea!! Haven't taken Lexapro since November.
  • Still working 4 days a week - Actually school resumes tomorrow after five weeks vacation
  • Visited Melbourne last week for the Australian open (Tennis).
  • Grand daughter is still the most wonderful thing.  She gives us such pleasure.  She's 17 months now.  Doesn't time fly when your having fun!

Take care everyone.

I'll try to get back to posting more regularly.

Marg

Hello Marg, so good to hear from you. Glad that you are doing so well.
And it does appear that time starts flying once you get grandkids. My granddaughters are 5 and 6 already. They both have my heart in their little hands and don't even know it.

How's your weather? It's been raining here for over a week. It's getting me depressed ....can't wait until spring to get some sunshine.

Take care and hope keep doing great. Thoughts and prayers.

Marj, it's so good to have you posting again!  I imagine with school starting, you won't have much opportunity...but please drop in every so often!  You've been missed.  So pleased to hear all the positive news.

All of you grandmas with young ones....enjoy it now!  Unfortunately, when the teen years come, they turn into someone you don't even know.  My daughter is having a time coping with the 15-year-old, who listens to no one.  When they rebel these days, it's not just getting caught smoking in the bathroom...it's far worse.   sad

As for me, I've enjoyed my month of only one medical appt., but starting Mon. I will have a full schedule of them.  I'm praying for good results, so I can go forward with my plans to go to NYC in April.

I've been making a lot of soups from scratch, as well as entrees like stew, and have had no more stomach problems.  Tomorrow, I'm making ratatouille in the crock pot.   :-)

We've had unseasonably cold weather here in NE FL, but today was sunny and warm, with a high of 68.  It tends to change from day to day, but I do believe the coming few days will be nice.

Hugs,

Connie

Connie, I am so glad that you are doing so well. You are so right about teenagers. My youngest is 13, and she has been acting out alot. She has already had to see a juvenile officer for two different incidents. I am really worried about her, and I am really unsure how to handle her. Nothing seems to work. I didn't have these problems with the two older kids.

The weather here in Missouri has been cold also. We got eight inches of snow last night. I expect it to melt in the next couple of days. The temperatures should be above freezing. I am still anxiously awaiting spring.

I want to apologize to all for not posting much lately. I have been working a lot of hours and am unable to log on as much as I would like. I will still be trying to stay caught up with everything that is going on here.

You are all in my prayers.
