This is so weird.  I have had AIH for about 1 1/2 years.  Results came back servere fibrosis- stage 4 .
was told to expect to need a liver transplant within 5 years.  The Dr. is amazed that it came back so bad.
He is sending the biopsy to another lab for another opinion.  Does not make sense to him that my liver would be so bad in such a short time.
I don't get it either,  I am now wondering if it was really my liver biopsy they are looking at..... yeah, it could be denial.
but this is to strange.  I always went to the Dr every year, never had elevated liver counts...
I am in shock. We should have the 3rd opionion next week.  Any opinions???

Sorry about that result! Good that the doctor is having it tested by a different lab. Do let us know the outcome of that.
Do you mean you were diagnosed 1 1/2 years ago?  If so, it's possible you could have had the disease a lot longer.  For example, I was diagnosed with hep C in '93, but know for a fact that I contracted it in '68 or '69 when I was sharing needles.  It wasn't until my liver enzymes starting elevating, and I felt more tired than I should be, that I found out I had chronic active hep C.

Best of luck and hugs,

Hi Rhonda,
I'm sorry to hear about your results. When do you get the other lab results? It's great the doc is sending off for a recheck. I understand the denial...I would question it too if your bloods have been OK. I was diagnosed just after you (Jan 2007). I had severe cell loss then from my biopsy, no cirrhosis. I've been having a lot of RUQ pain the last 3 weeks. I go in for a hepatologist check up next Tuesday (been 6 months since my last with a blood and call in in the middle). I'll stop in for bloods tomorrow to make sure he has them as there's a holiday on Monday. I'm constantly paranoid about a relapse even though my bloods have been good to date.

I really hope someone misread/mislabelled them. Please keep us posted.

My thoughts are with you,

Hi Rhonda,

Sorry to report that you can have completely normal blood test results and full blown cirhossis. Stage 4 is cirhossis (severe fibrosis is a nice way of saying it). I think its great you're getting more expert opinions to learn exactly what the state of your liver is.

Best, Cary
