You've got to tell me how your daughter's IBS went away. Some Drs have thought that is what Mom has, but never really told her that.   She has all the symptons w/D. She has been on Lomotil for years and is up to 8 pills per day. That has been the only thing that calms her intestines and the pain. They have tried to get her to do many different anti-depressants, but she wouldn't try them for long, if at all. It bothers her more than her COPD, which also adds to her weight loss. She is only 98 lbs. At one time she was 89 lbs.
She has been going to Drs for 30 years and had every test there is to give. Everything comes back normal.

When you get time,

Carol, We kept her IBS under good control with lactose free Acidophilus. It is a live bacteria that promotes a balance of good and bad bacteria that we need to have proper bowels. It is used for IBS, constipation and flagulance(spell check). Women who take it daily also dont get yeast infections. When researching stuff for my daughter, her life was aweful being young and couldnt go out to eat with friends, family BBQ she wouldnt eat. SHe became a hermit at 17yrs old. I found this and it is used by cancer centers of america as one of the homeopathy aides for patients. It is found at pharmacy, walmart and health food stores. There are no side effects, my husband and i take it also as anti-depressents cause constipation, antibiotics cause constipation also. Both hospitals we use also continue this as a med when he is in there. The transplant team also said to continue it as it does help to create a balance. You would have to start her on three tablets a day for a few weeks to see if it helps her. But depression is sometimes a major cause for IBS stress eats away at the balance. Each tablet of 1 billion bacteria is like eating yogurt by the case. Check it out yourself if she wont try anti depressents. It did wonders for my daughter.

Carol, My daughter had horrible pain to because she would have a section of intestine with a small blockage yet still have di.... cant spell it okay the poops. We made many trips to ER with her doubled over and they would have to clean her out totlally I never understood having both at the same time but I guess it happens. I recomend the lactose free without thinking but your mom may not be lactose intolerant. I think that walmart has it the cheapest over by the sawpalmetto and all that kind of stuff. You want the super potent

Sue;

I am lactos intolerant. Maybe the acidopholis would help me in some way. How would it work since I take lactulose (to give me diarrea ). I am immbarrasingly flatulant (sp). since I started taking the lactulose. Any advice. june

June My hubby takes 90ml of lactulose 3x a day and when he misses the acidophilus you can tell it is an asset, he gets gas and he needs more lactulose so it is helping. They do sell lactose free also. It is a natural bacteria and if your body doesnt need it it gets rid of it. Doug takes it with all the DRs consent, they even recommend it. Some wont cause it is homeopathy and they dont believe in that but NOT ONE of our team said NO. They also keep him on it while in the hospital.
Will write more later got to go to work

Thank you for the info, Sue. It is hard to get Mom to try new things, but I will get this and maybe she will try it.
Her body is so hooked on the Lomotil, that if something else did work, I'm sure she would have a hard time stopping it. Every 4 hours it is like withdrawels for her if she is just a little bit late for her next dose.
