My question is about the end stage and what are the symptoms. My dad had a bad liver attack 2 1/2 weeks ago. We originally thought it was his gall bladder. He had a biopsy this past Monday which revealed one tumor covering the entire right lobe and a tumor in the left lobe. He is in pain and experiencing nausea and has lost 20 lbs in two weeks. We are completely shocked because he has worked out consistently for years and kept his regular physicals. He does not have hepatitis and it doesn't appear to be cancer, because all the tumor markers came back negative. The dr. said he may have had a virus years ago that seeded the liver. The dr. said it is inoperable. We are going tomorrow to talk treatment options if there is any.
My dad seems to be exhibiting the symptoms of advanced stages. Could someone please help me with this. My parents are divorced so I'm basically the one going with him to appointments and trying to find as much information as possible. I am married with three small children of my own.
Thank you.

Hi, Peary!  I am glad you found us, but sorry it was under such difficult circumstances.  Here is a link to the topic here of Stages of End-Stage Liver Disease:

http://www.healingwell.com/community/default.aspx?f=25&m=1071558

It is listed on the same page as the thread you began.  That should help you a lot.  As to the tumors, if they are not cancerous then that is a relief.  I had a huge cancerous tumor of the rt. lobe of my liver, but it was treated and the rt. lobe removed, and I am fine now.  If your dad drinks alcohol, he needs to stop immediately, as that is the worst thing one can do to the liver.  Other than that, make sure he gets plenty of fruits and vegetables and stays hydrated with water.  Green tea is also good.  It's best to stay away from meat, as that's the hardest thing for the liver to break down.  A little fish or poultry a couple of times a week is okay.  Other than that, just wait to see what the doctors recommend.

I hope you will post again and let us know what treatment, if any, was decided upon.

Hugs,

Connie
