Hi all,

My father has been Hep C cirrhosis end stage for at least ten years now.  Went through the interferon, go high up on the list, then off because off a non related cancer, now liver cancer.  We've drained 10 liters of ascites this month, he's wasted away, confused at times, falls asleep every other minute, but other times he's lucid.  It's up and down all the time, last night I thought he might not make it and today he's okay.  how long can this kind of thing go on?  I don't think he's going to get put back on the list. He's 61.

i would be grateful to hear your stories of progression and resolution and symptoms et al.  Thank you.

HI Jan and welcome to healing well. I am so sorry that your father is having to deal with this disease. There is a thread on here regarding symptoms of end stage liver disease and stages of liver disease. You may find hem very helpful in understanding some of the things that heppen in the course of this disorder. Does your father take lactolose? A lot of people here have to take that medication for high amonia levels wihich cause confusion. You may be able to talk to his doctor regarding medications that may help his confusion.

Again welcome

Lucy

Hi Jan,

The best way to find out info is to read the ESLD post. I have it also. I read and research at least a couple hours a day but I find that the people on this site are so wonderful and comforting and knowledgeable that I feel the courage to fight on.
I'll pray for your husband and you. Get some rest yopurself
