my hepatologist prescribed Remeron to be taken in the evening. It was to replace my ativan for anxiety, panic attacks and depression and also Temazapam which was to help me sleep. Remeron took a good month to kick in. It doesn't work as well but it helps.
I still have my nights, like last night when I can't fall asleep until about an hour before I have to get up and get my kids off to school. This was a post reply I read from somewhere

a short update on myself...went to primary Dr yesterday and for monthly bloodwork. My MELD score is way down to 6 but my ammonia doubled to 54. I had told my Dr I had been feeling very punky this past month. I guess this was why. Got to double up on lactulose.
While I was at TP eval in August and at a support group meeting a tp recipient said and I quote"LEARN TO LOVE LACTULOSE"

My thoughts and prayers to all......anyone heard from JohnCT, I miss his posts. Hope you are doing OK if you read this. I kknow you are going through quite an ordeal right now.

Again thanks to everyone for their input , thoughts, friendship and info and just saying HI !!

Hello Karen, How are you this evening?

I am still not sleeping without a sleeping aide. I hate to been depended on pills. I have always had a problem remembering to take them. I better take one shortly or I will be up all night too.

I am worried about John also. If he was up to it .....he'd post. So John we will be waiting patiently .......or rather not so patiently for your next post.

That TP is right. Learn to love to take the Lactulose. My husband hated it with a passion but he took it.

Well time to take my night-night pill.

Thoughts and prayers........

Hi, Karen!  My ex-b.f. has clinical depression and Remeron is what he takes.  It seems to work well for him.  Prior to that, he went through at least 4 different antidepressants that he couldn't tolerate.  Thanks to a great psychiatrist who wouldn't give up, he is finally better than he's ever been.

As for myself, I take 2 10 mg Flexeril to make me sleepy.  However, thanks to Lasix, I get up a couple of times during the night...and my cats wake me up early to be fed.  Thankfully, I am able to get back to sleep easily.

John had a feeding tube placed this week, so aside from the discomfort of that, he's having to get used to a liquid diet.  I hope he posts soon, too, and that there have been no complications.

Hugs,
Connie

Hello, Karen!!!! So sorry you are having trouble sleeping. I am not sure if you can take it.....you would need to check w/ your primaray care doc but I have heard people say that melatonin helps.......(hoping I got that right)....but, check into something that is more natural as I don't think it's addictive.

On the MELD score thing.....I know how you feel. My husband's MELD started at 6, went up to 11, then he was temporarilty taken off the list, just put back on and it has dropped to 8......isn't that crazy??? We, too, have ammonia level issues.....gotta "LOve that lactulose"!!! But, it really does help with the ammonia issues!!! My husband gets so sick of taking it, but knows that he needs to! Can I ask what tp center you are going through??? We are in Texas.....and the level of care once we got with the tp docs has been amazing versus the level of care before being referred!! These guys are good for a reason, huh???

You hang in there!!! ....take your lactulose!
