My mom has cirrhosis. Its stage 4. The doctors told she has to lose weight in order for her get a transplant. She won't do nothing. She said that she is too cold or her body itches. I don't know what to do.

Hello, slyblondie.  Welcome to the forum.  I'm sorry that your mom is suffering from liver disease.  It does cause itching and many other uncomfortable symptoms.  If she does not want to do what is necessary for a transplant, you can't force her.  However, perhaps you can let her know how much she means to you and that you don't want to lose her now when there is a way for her to live a healthy life for more years.  See if you can appeal to her that way.  Nobody responds in a positive way to "preaching" or being fussed at.  Ask her if she wants to live or if she has given up.

My thoughts will be with you and your mom.

Hello Slyblondie and welcome to HealingWell.

My husband had to lose 100 lbs to be listed.......He did with a lot of help from liver cancer. He made the list.......so it can be done........unfortunately he didn't make it in time.....the cancer got the best of him.
It's a lot of hard work on the patients and caregivers parts to beat this disease.........But it can be done if the patient does everything in their power to fight it.......by following all the doctor's orders. It means a big life style change for most but in the end it's worth it.....I used our granddaughters to keep my husband in line.........I used any trick I could to keep him complying with everything the doctors wanted him to do or not to do. He may have lost his battle but it gave him another couple of years that he would not have had had he not done anything.

Hang in there.......thoughts and prayers.........

Hey I got a question. Is there any kind of lotion out there that will help with the itching. We use gold bond and this other stuff that the doctor told us. but nothing is working.

Slyblondie, I just bumped up a thread on itching.  Maybe you can find some suggestions there.

Good luck.

Hey - My husband has the same complaints and we have tried every over the counter lotion I can think of. His doctor put him on Rifampin 300 mg. He said it "may" help a little. The only thing that give him any relief is soaking in a bath of baby oil. Be extra careful of slipping in the tub. If you find something that works - please share. I hope you mom is doing ok. Update on my mom. She went to the hopsital on Firday to get a hole in her heart close. It took them two trys to get it right. She was suppose to come home last night, but she was having pains. So try cheacked her out and she had fluid build-up around the heart so they put in a tube. The doctor came to see her today. Lets just say I don't know when my mom will come home. She has alot of fluid around the heart and she is having alot of pain.

Welcome to the forum Slyblondie. I am so sorry that your mother is suffering with this terrible disease. It's such an unpredictiable disease. My husband has been told to lose weight also. He loses 5-10 pounds and then gains it right back. Just the mention of transplant list made him think "Why even try, I'm dying anyway." I have been trying to encourage him. I think it is finally starting to work. He has seemed a little more optimistic the past couple of days.

My prayers will be with you.
