hello,

i am new to this forum. i have searched the net all over for info. my mum was diagnosed with liver disease do to alcohol excess in 2006. also hemachromatosis in 2005. her iron levels seem well tho. in 2007 her ggt was 600 and somthing and march 09 its now its 842. shes had lots of weight loss, memory seems bad at times, bouts of vomiting. my mum will not quit her drinking. what is the highest the ggt can go before things start to get really bad?

thanx. will appreciate any response if i have made sense.

Hello LBAET82, welcome to HealingWell. This really no pat answer to your question. Everyone's system is different so what what person can handle another may not be able too. You may want to ask her doctor. But as you probably have read.........if she is still drinking that's not a good thing. In fact it's like she is through gasoline on a fire.

Take care.........thoughts and prayers..........

hi Pink Grandma, thanx for your reply. im aware shes slowly killing herself. she can drink 1-4 casks of wine per week. shes had 2 seizures so far but im not sure if its related to the liver. she says shes been told its cirrhosis. the dr has told her to take thiamine. its all very sad as she has 3 kids and 7 grandkids. so i dare say im in for the long haul in the not to distant future.

Good morning LBAET82,

Liver patients can experience seizures. My husband had them. The doctors gave him Keppra to stop them. There's quite a few educational posts here........Go ahead and read through them. They should be on this page or the second page of this forum.

And yes with any of the liver diseases..........it's quite a haul for the patient and family alike.

Take care........we are here anytime you have any questions or need a friend that understands......

Thoughts and prayers...........
