Hi there.

During the last two weeks my Dad has been tapped and had 5 1/2 liters drained both times.  The last time was 4 days ago and he is already pretty big again.  The strange thing is, is that the fluid build up is much more on one side than even across his stomach as in the past.  His left side is almost normal, and his right (where his last tap was) is stangely where the fluid retention is. So it looks like if he were a basketball in his stomach,  it would be shifted to one side. Does this make sense?

Also his blood pressue was 85/47 earlier today which is scary.  We're calling doctor in the morning.

Any suggestions or advice?

Thanks so much,
Hoping...

I really don't know why the ascites has shifted to one side.  It may just be contained in a "pocket."  I had a pocket of fluid in my midriff following hernia repair.  I kept having to get drains as they would clog up.  But it was just in one area and plainly visible on CT that it was in a pocket.  Just a possibility for your dad.

The BP is much more concerning!  Please continue to have someone take it this evening and even during the night.  If it decreases any more, don't hesitate to call Rescue.

Hugs,

Connie
