Hi I am 24 years old an dx with Crohn's/colitis

Now my liver seems to be acting up :S
My liver enzymes where 300 two weeks ago then 100(on pred) and now they are back up too 200. Should be less than 50.

My doc is going to take a liver biopsy tomorrow to check for Autoimmune Hepatitis or something else.

Just wondering if you could tell me what to expect with the biopsy, does it hurt :S and are complications likely.

And does anyone have Autoimmune Hepatitis? Would be nice to hear from you and how you are doing.
What meds you are taking and so on.

Thanks a million.

I am a little stressed :(

Isergodur, the biopsy is not a big deal.  I happened to find it quite painful, but most do not.  If you ask, the doctor may allow you something to relax you, although it's probably too late to ask for a prescription at this point.  He will sterilize the skin and inject it with a numbing medication.  Then he will do the large core needle biopsy.  It only takes a few seconds.  You will have a blood pressure cuff on the entire time.  If you have pain afterwards, you can get pain medication.  Normally, you have to stay on your right side with a rolled up towel or some type of pressure against your side for several hours, and then you will be discharged home.  You may be a little sore for a day or so, but after that you'll be fine.

We do have a few people here with autoimmune hepatitis.  However, before they start telling you anything, you need to get a firm diagnosis and find out if that is what you have or something else.

Please come back and let us know the results of your biopsy.

Hugs,

Connie
