Hello Everyone.

This is my first time on this site..my fiancee has been diagnosed with Hep C...I am very worried about him...he also has diabeties.  This past week he lost his mother.  His mom had a liver transplant and things were going okay but then they took a turn for the worst..long story short..she had to be taken off of life support.  She passed on Oct 7, ...I am still depressed over this..and I will miss her so very much.  I am worried about the side effects of the meds he will be taken...we were suppose to leave for vacation on Oct. 10 but we had to cancel...and it winded up we had the funeral for MOm on that day..she was cremated...I am trying to convince him to go on the trip with me like the dr. said..so that he can unwind himself a bit before getting started on his meds...I guess I am just venting...I am so stressed out..I have stomach pain all week...I just can't believe mother in law is gone...and now I have to deal with my honey being sick...and he is depressed too ..missing his mom...which I really understand..I have been through it too...lost my mom is 97..she was killed..it was a nightmare for me back then..I miss her every day...

NJPoetryGirl, thank you for starting a new topic to introduce yourself.  Welcome to the forum!  I also have hep C (diagnosed in '93) and cirrhosis.  I had liver cancer as a result of the hep C, but have been cancer free for 2+ yrs. now.

I agree with you that it would be best to go on a trip before your b.f. starts hep C treatment.  The side effects from treatment can be very, very difficult, and he must be on it for nearly a year.  I understand that he is depressed about his mom and may feel he won't have any fun.  But really I think the trip would be good for you both.  You can try to gently persuade him, but if he simply doesn't feel up to it...put it on hold.

I tried treatment when I was first diagnosed.  At the time, the only treatment available was interferon injections 3 x a week, that I gave myself.  I had to stop it because of dangerously low white counts.  Now, they have added Rebetron and the common term is "the combo."  I do have a friend who has been in remission from hep C--no detectable virus--for about 5 yrs. now.  It doesn't work for everyone, but for those whom it does work, they are given a new chance at life.

Does your b.f. have any symptoms, such as fatigue (the most common one?)

If you'd like more information about liver disease, look in the folder at the top of the Hepatitis Forum page, entitled Hepatitis Resources.

As Rick mentioned, the people here are very caring and supportive.

Hugs,

Connie

Val, if you are posting to me, yes...I do still have cirrhosis and also hep C.  Cirrhosis does not go away, except by getting a transplant.  Do you have liver disease or know someone who does?

To Connie,  Hep 93

HI Connie,

I just wanted to let you know that my honey and I are leaving for our vacation to see family and freinds this weekend.  I am really looking forward to this..and do hope that I feel better..I have not been feeling well lately..very tired, sore throat, depressed...I am hoping a change of scenery will do us both good.  I will keep in touch with you when we get back.  I am hoping to get him started on meds after vacation we just have to figure out his medical plan it's not the best insurance..and we do not know how we can afford it..talk to u soon...have a good night.

I'm so glad that you are going on your trip together.  I hope you are not coming down with the flu or anything and that you both have a very enjoyable time.

I'll be looking forward to hearing from you when you return.

Hugs,

Connie
