Dr. said today... the C word... so now to the University of Minnsesota.. they sent it in for a 2nd opinion because the area was very very small... almost precancerous... so they've done a good job of catching it early... but we have to go in for an evaluation... so it'll be a few weeks before we get the paperwork done etc at least a couple and then appointments sent etc..

my dilemna is balancing job and driving 273 miles... to the Twin Cities.. I have no choice ... I have to stay employed...

and told Mike needed to start AA.... still in denial... I told him last January needed to do that... he's sober but at this point undocumented which at this point is critical.... he told me he was going to wait untili he sees dr. well that could be a while... and in the long run a week or two could save his life.. he doesn't see it...

and some point I have to detach... and realize he's making choices that either are or may end his life... so I'll go day by day.. but today I guess I was just pissed off and not thinking very nice thoughts....

this is a very selfish act.... and I still love him... but boy he makes me angry tonight...

I've done a good job of holding emtions in.. but tonight I did not.... the load was too heavy... and no matter what they say about God not giving you more than u can bear... this load becomes unbearable at times... knowing what his future most likely is... and maybe this is selfish... but he'll be either 6 feet under, confused, or comatose if he continues like this.... and I will be the one watching him suffer and die... so tonight.... it just doesn't feel good...

well guess I must have been really angry.... Mike says... he will be sober forever now.... and he isn't one to make a statement like that and not do it... so first things first... but that's a huge step... and maybe there's a chance now... and he's gonna start AA this week.. Amen.. there is a God.. and I do love this man so much...

I'm sorry that Mike has cancer, but good that they caught it early.  Hopefully, it can be treated or removed surgically.  I really do hope that he is serious about keeping his promises.  Be sure to get a form or make one up if he does go to AA, with dates of attendance, place, and signature and printed name of the chairperson of each meeting.

My thoughts and prayers are with you both.

Hugs,

Connie

News flash to the person doing the intake at the Univesity of Minnesota... not every person with a Hispanic name speaks only Spanish... the lady called Mike... who has a Mexican last name... but is not wholly Hispanic... talks to Mike for awhile... then I take over... then repeatedly asks me if Mike needs an interpreter... after  speaking with him and he speaks fluent English... scarey stuff.

then they were going to do an evaluation solely for the transplant disregarding the liver cancer... the the lady said oh, we didn't know he had liver cancer... oh, my scary...
but working on getttin medical info to them asap... and release signed ... even prior to receiving their packet in the mail....
we have this going forward... and it has helped immensely to know about things like ablation and chem and stuff that I learned here.... so thanks... and I was very aggressive in pushing to get to the oncologist .... asap... and yes.. AA here we come and Mike is on board... he made the decision... and told me... and Mike is not one to go back on it... he was adament that he would make his choices as was I... I was very angry... and told him... hold on now folks I would pee on his grave if he died over not going to AA... am I out there or what but I was so mad... so angry to be losing this over going to AA when he has been choosing to be sober...  so we're on the right path... and thanks for your patience as we go along this journey...

As you've already learned, you have to be very proactive in Mike's care.  Make sure they have all the information (including that he speaks fluent English), etc.  It's a shame, but it's that way most everywhere these days, and woe be to those who are passive!  When I had liver cancer, I did see an oncologist once, but my treatment was actually handled by the hepatologist, surgeon, and interventional radiologist.

You're on the right track...just keep marching forward!
