my guy was told he had a month nine months ago he has lost over 90 pounds and he is skeletal also. He lives off fruit and raw vegetables and juice.
The doctors tell me he has to have a high protein diet but he cant eat protein.the worst thing is he has an infection they cant heal and its getting awful. He quit taking his lactulose which helps his thinking. We almost lost him three months ago but he got h1n1 and it actually raised his red blood cell count and he improved briefly. I think the worst thing is the dr's will tell him hes improving and then they tell him to prepare to die he has started vomiting is this a normal thing?

Welcome to both of you.  Care m, it would be best if you start your own thread so that others will see it and reply to you.  You can do this by clicking on New Topic instead of Reply.

Doctors generally won't estimate how long someone has left, as there are many variable factors and each case is very individual.  Liver patients do need some protein, but abstain from beef.  You can also use non-animal forms like beans.  Soybeans are high in protein and shelled edamame is now available in the frozen section.  I use it in stir fries.

If both of you do a search of the older posts for diet, this subject has been addressed many times.  The older posts also contain a lot of information.  It is important for us to know what type of liver disease a patient has, in order to respond correctly (hep C, AIH, alcoholic cirrhosis?)  Also, check out the folder at the top of the Hepatitis Forum page, Hepatitis Resources.  There is a lot of info in there.

Hugs,

Connie

Welcome Uncle Buck, Care m and Hudson Conner.

Uncle Buck,  wow 29 is very young to have ESLD.  I don't believe that we have had someone so young discussed here.  My heart goes out to you.

Care m,  liver disease is one big roller coaster ride.  It has it's ups and downs.  Just when you think you have a handle on it.  Along comes a big dip.

Hudson Conner,  tell us a little bit about yourself and/or your loved one.

All,  we are glad you found us.   But please do read our educational thread in the Hepatitis Resouce folder as Connie has suggested.  It is full of good information.   Also our older posts have a lot of very good information about liver disease.  So take a little time and read up on it.  It's the best thing that you can do ...is get educated and know what may come along and how to deal with it.

Thoughts and prayers to all..........
