thetrix, I read you post about nose bleeds and clots,as far as the nose bleeds, I had this problem when my platelets dropped  below 50. I couldnt even blow my nose or bend over with out it pouring out. My lowest platelets were in the 20's. My hepatologist said vit. K wouldnt help due to liver disease, my platelets are now 51.  You didnt say where the clots were coming from, is she vommiting and the clots come out with this? If so she may have gastritis. This is from the stomach. My husband had this happen to him inthe 90's, it looked like he was vomiting up his liver the clots were so big. They have meds. for this.
Good luck and my prayers are with you and yours,
Dee Dee

my mum dad the same problem. her platelets were very low she had a few transfusions before the doctors thought it safe for her to have her emergency hip replacement. my mum also has large deep purple patches all over her arms, doctors said her clotting mechanism doe not work properly due to her liver. she is also put on red alert in the hospital as she bleeds very easily and it is very hard to stop, she also has constant nosebleeds. she has periods when this is worse than other times. hope the info helps

Allie, fortunatly I didn't need to be transfused and my platelets went back into the 50's. My last platelet count was 50,(dropped alittle) they just keep an eye on all my labs. I would assume if it gets any lower they would have to replace her platelets. My transplant coordinator told me she has seen people with platelets in the single digits(I was shocked). Lots of luck with your Mom, I know how stressful it can be for you and the family, so you take care of yourself.
My prayers are with you,
Dee Dee
