sad I have AIH and cirrhosis. doing relatively good. But, my feet "burn" after I am on them for over an hour. Does anyone else have this?

I had that to a degree, when my fluid level in my legs rose. Swelling wasn't as noticeable in the feet, but my shoes were tighter. After I had a transplant my shoes were loose. I take that to mean that my feet had been swollen for years and years. I now wear the same shoe size from ten years ago, which is half a size smaller. **David**

Did it go away? My feet are no longer edematous, thanks to lasix and aldactone. Also, I was curious, have you ever heard of a patient's Meld dropping below 10, and thier ammonia level going sky high? I know anything is possible. But, I was so excited when mine dropped to 8. Thanks.

The MELD score is a calculation based on creatinine, bilirubin, and INR.  It has nothing to do with ammonia level.

Hi Ailsa, I was taking both lasix and aldactone as well. Your feet could be swollen so slightly that it's unnoticeable, other than that burn you're feeling. My feet were sore, but didn't look or feel particularly swollen. I'm not saying if that's what your problem is. I didn't realize mine until it had disappeared. A new liver that works, stopped the burn, and a myriad of problems. **David**

Ailsa,

How are they with cold?  I was recently diagnosed with Raynaud's because they turn pure white and purple depending on how cold (and I live in San Diego---so it's not really cold eyes ).  I have also noticed them being itchy and feeling hot.  I'm wondering if the hot is when the blood gets back in there after the white...something to keep on eye on.  Gotta love strange new symptoms that come up.  It's so easy to get crazy paranoid with a chronic condition!

Dany, I also have Raynaud's and the symptoms you describe (and I live in FL), except for burning.

Connie, I know how the MELD score is calculated. But, aren't Both (an elevated ammonia level and High MELD score) indicators of how well one's liver is working?

One would think that a high ammonia level would be accompanied by a high MELD score, but I don't know that that is always true.  Encephalopathy occurs when the liver is unable to clear toxins, particularly ammonia.
