This is my question- does anyone know if the amount removed from paracentesis and how regularly you have to have it done equate with how severe the cirrhosis is? Can you be end stage while only removing 3 liters every 2 weeks, or do you get more and more as it gets worse? I've seen huge amounts taken off of people while cruising the internet, and it made me wonder if increasing amounts of fluid mean the cirrhosis is getting worse. Thanks in advance for any input!

Cakelady, in general, the more damaged the liver the more fluid that's retained and tapped off with paracentesis.  But again, everyone is different.  Hopefully, some others will have input on this.

Hugs,

Connie

Depends on the body frame too... one person can be large... and 2 liters is a small amount but for a small framed person that can be a lot... or male versus female...

I see what you mean. My dad is about 5 foot 6, so he's not a tall man. He's had alot of muscle wasting in his upper body, so that's made him smaller, too. I know you can tell a huge difference in his stomach after he's had the procedure.  Thanks for your input.
