Hello all--

Shebug is my handle, 54 y/o female - approx 35 year w/ HCV, known about 10 years, rarely, rarely drank since diagnosed.(4 perhaps a year)

Don't know about viral load and such - regular blood test show I've been in normal range. Have tested positive for active virus last month.

Will have biopsy soon when insurance and finances are in order.

Pre-diagnosis, was not kind to my liver - painter/furniture re-finisher/bartender. Chemicals and alcohol, bummer.

I have found this forum down to earth, yet supportive so will hang out during this journey to avail myself of the knowledge you hold. I want to make informed choices, just not be a sheep.

I also want to know that's there's a place my partner can come if things go wack. The caregiver point of views here make me determined to make sure there are support systems for him as well as myself.

Best Fishes to all -

Hi, Shebug, and welcome.  I think you will feel right at home here.  Once you have the biopsy, you will have a better idea of what shape your liver is in--whether you have cirrhosis, etc.  Then treatment options can be discussed.  I don't know if you've seen my posts about the new treatment that adds Telaprevir to the mix, which will become available early next year.  That will be another thing to consider.  It's great that you are foresighted enough to include your partner in whatever the future holds, in terms of making sure he has support.

While 4 alcoholic drinks a year aren't much at all for a normal liver, remember that yours is damaged and you are further damaging it with any alcohol intake whatsoever.  You need to make sure you are as healthy as you can be, given the hep C diagnosis.

Hugs,

Connie

Thank you kindly for the welcome. I understand no alcohol now since I read about watching for even mouthwash. I am sad to be giving up the long time ritual involving a friends homemade fruit wine, but we'll find a way. Triple strength concord perhaps. :)

Going to plant some tomatoes today - take care!

Good idea, as long as it's not fermented!  smilewinkgrin

How is your energy level?  It's important to get sufficient rest, too.

Hugs,

Connie

Hello Shebug and welcome to HealingWell.    So glad you found us earlier then later.   We are a diverse forum........with patients, caregivers and even post transplant patients and caregivers........ we have probably most liver diseases represented here as well.   Not to mention how wonderful our members are......I'll admit.....I am being partial.

It's great that you are thinking ahead for your partner..........but we are here for not only support for the caregivers but for their education as well.    Have him at least read the forum so he gets and idea of what the future may hold.   The more people active in your care.........the better.    There may come a time when he needs to step in and lead the charge in your care.........Lot's of thoughts and prayers.............

Sorry for shorthand replies - the cat is here in the office.

Connie - triple strength hugs to you - non-fermented!

As a matter of fact Shadowghost, I put in a "Green Zebra" for that purpose. :)

Rick, I quit smoking last year - nothing like clearing brush for a garden to work off the frustrations!

Ah, Pink Grandma --I shall string you words of advice like a necklace, and keep them close.
