Internet access is spotty here at the hospital so I'll make this quick.  We're at the hospital, hubby's transplant will be tonight or tomorrow.  Everything going well.  Please keep him in your prayers.

Hi David,
This is Linda from the Healing Well forum. I'm writing from my husband's laptop. He got the call today so we're at the hospital waiting for surgery. They said it will be tonight or tomorrow and then he will have a new liver! He was on the golf course when they called. I'm so glad they drained his belly when they did. Since then, he's been eating better and getting more excercise so he's in the best shape he can be before surgery. Thank you for all your support through this. I've had a few meltdown moments over the past few months but now I just have to look forward. Could you post a note on the board for me. I keep losing my connection here so I don't know if I can post an update. I'll keep you posted.
Linda

I received this a few hours ago, but just came home. Here's a little more info from Linda. As I wrote back, this is more exciting than my transplant, to me.

Linda! I am so excited for you! Praying all goes well, and remember to breathe! I did post a reply earlier, but apparently I was so excited, I hit the button for "new topic" instead of "post reply" LOL!

Let us know how things go when you can. Keeping you guys in our prayers!

Thanks David,
They took him in about an hour ago. It's now about 1:40 AM and I'm sitting in the waiting room. They told him they were coming to get him at 9:30 last night and they would start surgery at 10:30 pm. You can imagine how anxious he was getting during the wait! He is in good spirits tonight though and was laughing and making jokes with the doctors. Thank you so much for your encouragement. It's really helped me to stay positive. I'll send an update as soon as they tell me something. They said it would be 6-8 hours but it could be longer or shorter. They are doing multiple surgeries tonight with various organs.
More later,
Linda

Here's a further update. This is great news!

Everything went great and his new liver is working. He'll be sedated for a day or two and they said they are going to try to take out the breathing tube this afternoon after his blood work. More later, Linda

They just finished the surgery and everything went GREAT! I have another hour wait until they get him settled in intensive care but his new liver is working and there were no complications. I'll update again soon. Thank you!

Thank you for posting the updates for me David. I would get something typed and then lose the connection.

He's doing better now that the shift changed. The last team wanted to take him off the breathing tube and he was panicking and chocking and getting stressed. They were cutting his sedation and pain meds to get him to breathe and he kept falling asleep. This nurse says knock him out and let him rest today and I agree. The doctor said he would be out for a day or two. He doesn't need to be rushed.

I close my eyes and imagine the day we go home but not before he's strong and stable.

Thank you,
Linda

I agree that they may have been rushing that.  Hopefully, he can come off it tomorrow.

I know already that many people here dont support my way of doing things with my situation, but I had to say best of luck with the next few days and many years - youve done something I havent had the balls to do yet and youve gone all the way - all the best from tother side of the pond.

The breathing tube is out, the incision looks great and physical therapy is coming soon to get him on his feet! Everything is as good as it can be!

Prayers are being answered

Linda sent me a couple pictures and her husband looks great! It took me a week to look halfway normal. In one pic, he's with his mother and in the other a shot of the incision. And, he's smiling!

Thanks, David!  So glad to hear he is doing so well.  I think his positive attitude through everything has been--and will be--very instrumental in how he does.

Thanks everybody for the kind thoughts and prayers. He was moved out of ICU this evening and is still doing well. He was awake for most of the day so he's sleeping now. He has a pump for pain meds every ten minutes and that seems to be keeping the pain in check. He didn't complain much about the catheter removal, just some slight burning the first couple of times he needed to urinate. He still has an IV, the pick line in his neck and two drain bags but other than that, all the other lines and tubes have been removed. He did have some bleeding when they removed the line from the femoral artery yesterday and the nurse had to apply pressure for about 15 minutes but she said that's not unusual. Today, he was able to have some broth and jello. He's still on a clear liquid diet. They are waiting for him to pass some gas before he's allowed to eat to be sure everything is moving along on the inside. For the first time in his life, he doesn't have gas! Figures! I feel so blessed to have found this board. When they told us about the cancer in March, I felt like my whole world collapsed. Now we have hope for the future. Special thanks to David for his unrelenting great attitute. I'll post again tomorrow. Thanks again and know I pray for all of you too.
