Dean had his transplant two weeks ago and was still having problems with ascites.  The scan yesterday showed a narrowing of the portal vein.  They are planning on putting in a stent today or tomorrow.  We are waiting to hear when they will do the procedure.  Any input on this procedure?

Thanks, Linda

Linda, aside from it increasing the blood flow, I really don't know anything about the procedure. Thoughts and prayers are with him, though.

Hugs,

He's still in recovery and the last update I got said they didn't do the stent for some reason and I have no information as to why. I was hoping they would find the problem and fix it. He can't keep getting drained every few days. I'm really upset and worried about him.
Updates as I get them,
Linda

A friend received a transplant 2 weeks after mine. Several months later he had a stent in his portal vein. It's not a pleasant procedure, but then how many are? He's now a year out and doing well. You do what you have to, to live. Ascites are common when pressure builds up from a portal vein narrowing. Be well, Linda and Dean.

I'll find out more tomorrow but the nurse just talked to the doctor and he said for Dean not to eat anything after midnight. I guess they're doing more tests in the morning. They didn't do the stent like they planned. They said when they got in there everything was within range. Dean is frustrated because he was doing so well and now he's back in the hospital. We mostly had a good day watching TV and playing cards. We would be doing the same thing at home so I told him to just relax and let the doctors find the problem. Thanks for the encouragement!

I think you have the right idea, Linda!  May as well just go with the flow.  Hope you two can get some sleep.

Hugs,

Connie
